Can we talk about newborn digital composites for a minute?

These are one of my favorite parts of newborn photography because they take your baby's photos from adorable to downright magical.

Sometimes I wish I could turn my own kids back into newborns for about 30 minutes just so I could create these for them. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed, and no amount of wishful thinking is bringing back those tiny squishy baby days!

So since I can't do it with my own babies, bring me yours!

Whether it's a moon, a swing, a nest, or another whimsical setup, digital composites allow us to create artwork that simply wouldn't be possible otherwise. They're designed safely by combining multiple images into one finished piece of art.

And honestly... can you imagine one of these HUGE on your wall? The kind of image that stops people in their tracks when they walk into your home?

Your baby will only be this tiny once. Let's create something magical you'll treasure long after the newborn stage is gone.

Happy 9 Months to this little dude!

I have to admit, we were all pretty impressed with how well he did at his session! Lately he's become quite the mama's boy, so we weren't sure how he'd feel about hanging out with me for photos. Turns out, he had plenty of smiles to share!

In fact, I think this may have been the most smiles we've gotten from him out of all of his milestone sessions so far. Between the grins, curious expressions, and sweet little personality that's starting to shine through, he absolutely nailed his 9-month photos.

Watching babies grow from one milestone to the next is one of my favorite parts of this job. It's amazing how much changes in just a few short months.

Weiner believe this little guy is ONE already!

His mama requested a dachshund-themed cake smash, and I was absolutely here for it. I love when families think outside the box. She even brought the cutest custom royal icing cookies to match!

This birthday boy was ready to paw-ty. He gave amazing eye contact, dug right into his treats, and kept me laughing the entire session. I was especially impressed with how long he managed to hold onto his cake before it finally took a tumble at the end. Honestly, it lasted much longer than I expected!

These simple highchair cake smash sessions are such a fun way to document your baby's first birthday. The classic Jenny Lind highchair keeps the focus right where it belongs—on your little one, their personality, and all those sweet (and messy) one-year-old moments.

I'd say this session was the ulti-mutt first birthday celebration! Happy Birthday, sweet boy!

Think your baby is "too old" for a cake smash because they already turned one? Not at all!

This sweet little lady was 14 months old for her cake smash, and she absolutely rocked it! There are plenty of babies who are already walking before their first birthday, so a few extra months really doesn't make much difference.

If life got busy and you missed scheduling photos right at 12 months, don't worry—you haven't missed your chance. Cake smash sessions are all about celebrating your little one and capturing their personality. Plus, what could be more fun than eating cake, making a mess, and playing?

Cake smashes are one of my favorite milestone sessions because they give little ones something fun to do, which often leads to the sweetest smiles and cutest expressions.

What should you wear for your newborn session?

Honestly, this is one of the questions I get asked the most!

To make things easier, I put together a complete guide with outfit ideas for moms, dads, siblings, and baby. I included examples of colors, clothing styles, and combinations that photograph beautifully and help create those timeless newborn images everyone loves.

My biggest piece of advice? Coordinate, don't match. Soft colors, simple patterns, and comfortable clothing help keep the focus on your family's connection and your beautiful new baby.

And don't stress too much about what baby will wear! I have a large collection of newborn outfits, wraps, headbands, and accessories available in the studio, so that's one thing you can cross off your list unless there's a special outfit you'd like to include.

This sweet little lady was so much fun to photograph! I absolutely love when babies come back after their newborn session. It’s such a joy to see how much they’ve grown and to watch their little personalities start to shine. This sweet girl was such a rockstar for her newborn session! She slept so well that we were even able to do the froggy pose—a pose I only do when a baby is extra sleepy and settled. She also gave us the cutest little smile while snuggled in the basket, and it completely melted my heart.

She has the sweetest family, and I am so happy for them as they welcome their beautiful baby girl!

How adorable is this little redhead?!

There is just something so special about getting to watch families grow.

Big brother was their IVF miracle baby, and now they welcomed sweet baby brother naturally. It is always so incredible to see the different journeys families take to grow their families. This is not the first family I’ve photographed with a story like this, and every single time it makes my heart so happy for them.

And can we talk about these boys?! Big brother is only 14 months old, so he is still very much a baby himself, but he was such a sweet little guy during their session and gave me SO many adorable smiles. Watching him snuggle up close to his new baby brother was the sweetest thing ever.

Two precious little miracle babies, so deeply loved already.

One of the coolest parts of this job is getting to watch families grow over the years!

I first photographed this sweet family back when I was working out of my basement studio… then again in my Bettendorf studio… and now here we are in the Davenport studio! How amazing is that?!

I’ve had quite a few families now who have been with me through all three studio spaces, and honestly, that means more to me than you know. To be trusted to continue documenting your growing families, your new babies, and all the milestones in between is such an honor.

Seeing your kids come back bigger every year always makes me a little emotional because it really reminds me how long we’ve been doing life together through photos.
