Holy Spirit Hoverings: Five Years of Whispering Me Through Motherhood

Over the last five years, I’ve written down little things I felt the Holy Spirit whisper to me about Mia.

At the time, some made sense. Some didn’t. Some felt like they were for her. Others, I’m realizing now, were actually for me.

I called them my “Holy Spirit Hoverings.”

✨ “Aren’t you excited?”

✨ “Time of ending is over.”

✨ “Can a woman forget her nursing child?”

✨ “This is not the end.”

✨ “If the change is not consistent—don’t give up!”

✨ “You don’t know how to lay down your burdens.”

✨ “I gave you someone to talk to.”

✨ “This is the time of refreshing.”

✨ “Go! I will be with you.”

✨ “Pray for Mia.”

✨ “I’m right here.”

✨ “At any cost.”

✨ “Don’t rush.”

✨ “This time is meant to be enjoyed.”

✨ “This is kingdom work.”

There were also the moments that weren’t words at all.

A middle-of-the-night moment of pure praise when I was exhausted and discouraged because Mia had stopped napping.

The night she woke up and I went back to her room to sleep beside her—and was unexpectedly overwhelmed by the presence of Jesus in her room. I told her, “Jesus is here. Jesus loves you.”

And then there was the time I prayed for people who would pray for Mia while she was at school.

God led me to a prayer group.

At her school.

Prayer answered before I even knew how He would answer it.

And now…

She’s in kindergarten.

And I have to admit, kindergarten has triggered a lot of fear in me. Watching my little girl walk into a loud, busy, overwhelming world has made me want to protect her from every hard thing.

But on her second day, Mia came home less afraid.

And last night, I slept better.

Nothing magically changed.

She didn’t suddenly become fearless.

I didn’t suddenly stop worrying.

But I remembered the whispers.

“Don’t rush.”

“This time is meant to be enjoyed.”

“I’m right here.”

And I realized something I couldn’t see five years ago:

Maybe all those whispers weren’t just preparing Mia for her future.

They were preparing me to release her into it.

Mamas, if you’re in a season where you’re scared for your child, I want to remind you of something I’m reminding myself:

You don’t have to know how the whole story ends.

You don’t have to make them fearless.

You don’t have to carry every burden for them.

You can pray.

You can listen.

You can encourage.

You can release.

You can enjoy them.

And you can trust that the God who met you in the middle of the night is the same God who is with them when you aren’t there.

I walked Mia to the school door.

And Jesus went in with her.

Maybe He’s doing the same for your child.

And maybe He’s whispering to you, too:

Don’t rush.
Don’t give up.
Lay down your burdens.
Pray.
I’m right here.
This time is meant to be enjoyed. ❤️

Sneak peek of the Bergen family and their dog, Farmo. 🐾❤️

After losing Vi this past week, I will forever insist that your dog be part of the mix. Bring the toys. Bring the treats. Bring all the derp faces. 😂

Because our dogs aren’t “just dogs.” They’re family. And after losing one of mine, I’m even more determined to capture the joy, chaos, personality, and unconditional love they bring to our lives.

I can't even say it… but I know exactly how precious these photos become when “one day” turns into “I’m so glad we have these.” ❤️🐾📸

I have some sad news to report tonight! We had to put down our dog, Vi, whom we rescued from the Henry County Humane Society - Geneseo, IL. We adopted her 938 days ago when she was at the ripe old age of 9 going on 10 because she looked like our former dog named Starfish.

Vi came with a chronic thyroid issue and a rap sheet of doing TWO YEARS behind bars. We set her free and gave her the best possible life we could even when it was hard. And there were some really hard days. She recently developed kidney disease and had to be put down today after things escalated quickly.

I want to thank Dr. Alexis, Nicole, Cass, Kat, Dr. Rob, and everyone whom she came into contact at Animal Family Veterinary Care Center. She smiled the best and brightest when she went there.

Everyone who saw her (humans that is) knew how much she loved saying hi to each person she met.

This picture is how I want to remember her. Wide open smile. Loving on her girls. In her garden. No bars. 🐾🐶💔

P.S. always take the pictures. Vi wasn’t even supposed to be in the photoshoot with Acparkinson Photography but somehow she got out and we welcomed her anyway, and I’ll have these memories furever to cherish.

I had the honor of photographing a new-to-me Quad Cities nonprofit recently, and I’m so glad I said yes. 💛📸

Meet Argrow's House—an organization doing incredible work to help women rebuild their lives and move toward meaningful employment and a brighter future, led by Dr. Kit Ford, their fearless and multi-talented leader (see the last two pictures)!

I had the privilege of photographing graduates from their Workforce Development Program, which equips participants with the skills, knowledge, mentorship, and real-world experience they need to secure meaningful employment and advance their careers.

Through hands-on experience at Argrow's Cafe and Argrow’s Bath & Body, participants get the opportunity to learn, grow, build confidence, and take another step toward their goals. 🌱

And speaking of the cafe… I’ve already been at least once, and I can tell you it’s more than just good food. ☕️🥐

It’s a place with good food, warm community, and real purpose. They serve fresh, handcrafted drinks and bites in a welcoming space that gives back to women rebuilding their lives.

I’ve had the opportunity to:

☕️ Visit the cafe
🙏 Sit in on one of their weekly devotionals
📚 Donate copies of my book

And every time I’ve stepped through their doors, I’ve left more grateful that organizations like this exist in our community. Also, these ladies know how to have fun!

What a gift to discover another nonprofit in the Quad Cities that is not only serving people, but helping them move forward.

I’m honored to have played a small part in telling their story through photography. 💛

🌿✨ And the winner of the FREE Mama Mia Greenhouse & Gardens session is… ROSALIE! ✨🌿

And honestly? I couldn’t have imagined a more full-circle person to win. 🥹

Rosalie has been with me from the very beginning—literally.

Four years ago, I posted in the Quad Cities Mom | Community + Connection group asking if any pregnant moms would be willing to let me photograph them for free. I had no idea what would come from putting myself out there and inviting complete strangers into my creative work.

One thing led to another, and I’ve had the absolute privilege of documenting Rosalie’s journey through the years. 📸 From pregnancy to motherhood, I’ve gotten to watch her story unfold—and somewhere along the way, I even got to mentor her as she began becoming a photographer herself. 🤍

You just never know what kind of people you’re going to meet when you put yourself out there.

Four years later, I can say with even more confidence: there are still good people out there. There are people who will trust you, encourage you, cheer you on, and become part of your story in ways you never expected.

And creativity? It’s just the tip of the iceberg. 🌱

So, celebrating four years of Renee Fisher Photography by welcoming Rosalie into my own greenhouse and gardens feels pretty darn special.

Because sometimes the people you meet at the beginning of the story are still there when you get to celebrate how far you’ve come. 🌿📸

🌿📸 FOUR YEARS OF RENEE FISHER PHOTOGRAPHY 📸🌿

Four years of photographing everyone else’s seasons… and now celebrating one of my own. 🥹🌱

Four years. 400 followers. And for my fourth anniversary, it felt only right to celebrate by doing something I’ve never done before:

Taking pictures in my own greenhouse and gardens. 🌱🌸🌻

Four years ago, Renee Fisher Photography started as an outlet for my postpartum creativity.

I had no idea I was stepping into something that would become so much more than a hobby. ❤️

Over these four years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of photographing foster families, expectant mothers, newborns, seniors, community events, weddings, and so many of the little and big moments that make up a life.

Somewhere along the way, I realized something:

I don’t just love taking pictures. I love stories.

After years of writing and publishing books, storytelling was already woven into me. The camera simply gave that storyteller another language. 📖➡️📸

And I’ve gotten a front-row seat to people’s lives through all four seasons here in the Quad Cities. The growing. The changing. The celebrating. The messy, beautiful, ordinary moments that become the stories we remember.

I’m incredibly grateful for every person who has trusted me with a little piece of theirs. 🥹❤️

Four years. 400 people following along. So many stories. So many beautiful people.

And somehow, I think we’re just getting started. 🌿✨

Here’s to the stories still waiting to be told. 🌷

Because these gardens—including my own—are now part of my story, too. 💚
