“I was born and raised in central North Carolina where I grew up on a family farm that raised registered Angus cattle & poultry. In finding my niche on the family farm I found myself in charge of advertising and marketing, and in the process found a passion for photography. In fall of 2002, I started at Iowa State University in Animal Science. When I wasn’t in class, I traveled the Midwest visiting and working with livestock producers as a freelance videographer and graphic designer. While in college I met my wife and following graduation we moved to southeast Iowa where we live with our four kids, Hayleigh, Hayden, Liam, & Lorelei. I was introduced to a good friend and mentor who is a portrait photographer and took a class with her that covered the basics of photography. The following year I took Best of Show honors in our Open Photography Show at our county fair. I was introduced to the director of the Art Center of Burlington and began marketing some of my work there. I got active in the organization and served on the Board of Directors for 3 years. I primarily shoot landscapes, livestock, & macro. I offer large, single edition works through various galleries and the Heath McPherson Photography page on Facebook. When I'm not shooting pictures you can find me involved in the livestock industry as a Livestock Specialist at Quality Plus Feeds, in St. Paul, Iowa and breeding program consultant for Lightning Struck Cattle Company in Schleswig, Iowa.”
