Experimenting with watercolor some time ago, I painted this with the intent of capturing the grey, somber mood of that September morning in 2024 as I walked along the banks of the Red River in Louisiana. Humidity and fog hung thick in the air. Then, a cool, refreshing light rain began to fall. It was a welcome reprieve from the unrelenting, oppressive heat that is the norm at that time of year. I also made an oil painting of this scene; however, I prefer the watercolor as it seems to best capture the fragility of the moment. Sometimes the most beautiful moments are the ones that feel a little heavy. Watercolor on paper, 7.25” x 11”
