There’s something powerful about a dream that refuses to quit—even when life stacks the odds.

The last time I photographed this beautiful lady was in 2017. Eight years later, she reached out for me to capture this moment—one that marks the culmination of late nights, long days, and a God-given calling she refused to let go of.

Today, she walks the stage with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling 🎓✨—all while working full-time, completing her internship, facing health challenges, and showing up in every role she carries as wife, mom, Mimi, sister, and friend.

This is more than a degree—it’s a testimony of tenacity, grace, and the kind of faith that turns “I can’t” into “Watch me.”

Two weeks ago, my camera shut down in the middle of Aaliyah’s senior session.
No warning. No error code. Just done.

I’ve been photographing since 2008—and that had never happened.

But today?
She’s graduating.
And we’re celebrating a story that ended up being bigger than a session.

We reshot that Sunday, and on a whim decided to swing by a local coffee shop. No plan—just following the vibe.

As we walked in, Aaliyah said:
“I just wish we had some books. That would really tie the look together.”

We turned a corner, and there it was.
A fully staged bookshelf in the back.
Waiting on us like it had been part of the plan all along.

She grabbed a few titles—The Black Swan matched her look perfectly.
But the one that stopped us in our tracks?
Who Am I Really?

She opened it and landed on the foreword:

“To every woman who has ever wondered Who Am I?
May the words in this book replace the lie with the truth of God’s love and your value through Him…”

It was one of those moments you don’t plan for—but you don’t forget either.

Today, as Aaliyah walks across that stage, I’m reminded…
What looked like a setback was really just setup.
What felt like a disruption was actually divine alignment.

And if you’ve been trying to control every detail lately—
Let this be your reminder:
There’s beauty in the release.
Trust the reroute.

I’ve been doing this since 2008.
Three cameras, hundreds of sessions, thousands of moments.
Never—not once—has my camera just… died on me.

Until this day.

Aaliyah pulled up ready. Hair laid, outfits on point, energy locked in. We were just getting started—and then my camera gave out. No warning. No mercy.

But here’s the wild part: I didn’t freak out. I didn’t shut down. I stayed calm… because I’ve learned that when stuff breaks, God builds.

And baby, He did.

By Sunday—less than 48 hours later—I had a new camera in my hands. We ran it back, and the reshoot? Flawless.

But these images right here?
This was before the comeback.
This was the calm in the middle of the unknown. And Aaliyah? She stayed graceful, positive, and unbothered. She reminded me that sometimes your peace has to speak louder than your panic.

This one’s for anybody who’s ever had the bottom fall out and trust the process long enough to see it ALL worked out for your good. Stay tuned—because what came next? Even better than what we planned.

If you didn’t know her name before… you do now.

Ms. Aaliyah Maxie turned the city into her runway and made Prom 2025 look like a movie premiere.

From the gown to the veil, the glam to the Harley that literally showed up coincidentally at the exact moment we were standing there—every detail was curated, styled, and executed with main character energy.
