People finish the race, the clock hits zero, the project is completed. People gather around and witness these moments of accomplishment. They walk away and realize they want to experience that euphoric feeling of finishing.

But they don’t want the moments before the finish. The self inflicted punishment on the body. The mental barrage you have to wade through. The daily decisions to get 1% better.

I have a quote that sits by my lamp on my office desk that I try to not overlook.

This is my wife Phoebe.

We have drastically different personalities. She is full of energy and the life of the party. She knows no stranger and will never shake your hand — always hugs.

I am the more reserved kind. I like sitting in my office, drinking coffee and working. I enjoy going to the gym early in the morning by myself. I love being around people, just as long as I get some time to myself.

I’m convinced that without Phoebe my life would be quite boring. She just walked into my office as I was writing this to make me watch a 6 minute long halloween video. Could I have gone without watching it? Sure. But I’m glad I watched it. It made me laugh. Like actually laugh. And it reminded me that life is too short to not have fun -- and that she is the best.

Phoebe, you are my wildest dream come true and my greatest treasure.

I know I don’t always show it, but I am always thankful when you force me to do dance moves.

I love you always.
