Last-minute call. Beautiful face. Moody light.
Sometimes the best images happen when there’s no time to overthink them.
I was lucky enough to get called in at the last minute to photograph this guy and grab a few frames. We kept it simple and let the light, expression, and mood do the heavy lifting.
A little mystery. A little attitude. Very little posing.

I originally wanted to create a whole new series inspired by In the American West. I even considered pulling my large-format camera out of its case and dusting it off. I didn’t.

Instead, I started looking at my own work through Avedon’s lens—thinking about how his approach to portraiture, simplicity, movement, and the relationship between photographer and subject may have quietly influenced my own vision over the years.

So rather than making something new, I curated a small collection of images from my existing work that felt connected to that inspiration.

Sometimes inspiration isn’t about making something different. Sometimes it’s about looking again at what you’ve already made and seeing the influence hiding there.

She brought the personality, the movement, the attitude—and little sis decided she wanted in on the action, too.

Honestly, some of my favorite moments are the ones that aren’t planned. The unexpected cameos, the giggles, the movement, the real-life stuff.

Because the best photos don’t always happen when everyone is looking at the camera. ❤️

Creative inspiration often comes from unexpected combinations.

For this shoot, I found myself somewhere between Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World and Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. One is quiet, contemplative, and rooted in the landscape. The other is rugged, cinematic, and unapologetically Western.

The challenge was finding the space where those influences could coexist—a lone figure in the prairie, worn boots, tall dry grass, and a sense of both resilience and stillness. Less about recreating either reference and more about capturing the feeling they evoke.

Some of my favorite images begin with a conversation between art, film, fashion, and place. That’s where new visual stories emerge.

One model. Three looks. Three completely different stories.

I love the challenge of creating visual variety without changing the cast. A shift in wardrobe, a change in light, a different mood, and suddenly the same person becomes an entirely new character.

Some frames leaned into bold color and energy. Others embraced muted tones, letting expression, texture, and posture take center stage.

It’s a good reminder that compelling imagery isn’t about having more—it’s about seeing more. The best shoots come from exploring possibilities, experimenting, and pushing past the first obvious idea.

The brief: graduation gown, mint green suit, skate park.

The unexpected part: catching him mid-air.

I love sessions that blur the line between portrait and lifestyle campaign—where the image feels less like “pose and smile” and more like a moment pulled from a film.

This one had all the ingredients: movement, style, and a little bit of fearless.

Had a great time photographing Tucker. Since he’s worked on some cool film projects of his own, we had plenty to talk about beyond just photos. It’s always fun connecting with another creative. We covered a lot of ground during the session and came away with a wide variety of images that capture different sides of his personality and a range of moods.

Some subjects make your job easy.
This young model brought incredible energy to our shoot, along with the confidence, discipline, and body awareness that comes from a dance background. She moved naturally between poses, took direction well, and brought a wide range of expressions that gave us so much variety to work with.
One of my favorite things about photographing kids is capturing their unique personalities. The best images happen when they feel comfortable enough to be themselves, and this session was full of those moments.
The result was a collection of images that felt vibrant, expressive, and full of life—just like her.

This shoot tapped into something I love chasing in photography: nostalgia.
There was something about this one—the model’s effortlessly cool presence, the way her outfit moved with her (and around her), flowing and catching light in all the right ways—that transported me through a few different decades at once. A little old Hollywood, a little ’70s freedom, a little ’90s editorial edge.
Those are my favorite kinds of images to make—the ones that feel current, but also familiar. Images that spark a memory you can’t quite place.
Photography has a way of doing that: folding time, emotion, and style into a single frame.
