Pulled this image out of the archives. It was shot for the Dallas-based fashion magazine La Mode. was the model. The series Mad Men was really big at the time, so they pulled fifties-style garments for her to wear in the feature. This was the cover image.

In 1994, I was hired by the GSD&M agency in Austin to shoot an ad photo for Southwest Airlines. The concept promoted the airline's cargo shipping capabilities using an image of CEO Herb Kelleher with his sleeves rolled up to reveal a “Born to Ship” tattoo. (The agency had created a “stick-on” version.)

I shot this in a makeshift studio in a hangar at Love Field. Herb chain-smoked and told stories with such non-stop enthusiasm that we almost ran out of time to get the shot.

In the end, we captured exactly what the design team wanted…and I also came away with a great out-take of Herb cracking up. The image ran heavily as a print advertisement in numerous national magazines and was also displayed as a poster throughout Southwest Airlines airport terminals. It is a great memory!

Loved when she reached out and wanted to be a part of the Fifty Over 50 series!

Historically, we have always done “work” photos. Was really fun this go-around to photograph the other side of her.
