It's funny because taking pictures started out as a way to get out of my room in college and explore, but as you can see, this journey ha

s grown into something spectacular. So to all the individuals that have trusted me with capturing their moments, I am beyond thankful!

Being self-taught was a journey in itself, but it allowed me to explore and make the necessary mistakes needed to create my own unique style. Even to this day I am still learning and refining, and I love it! My goal as a photographer is not just to aim a camera and take a photo. The ultimate goal is to establish a connection with people that turns those "pictures" into more like moments in time. Great pictures in technicality are always great, but does that image connect with you? If it doesn't then it's just a good looking photo with no significance. I'm not here just to take photos, but to help tell stories and create moments.

The Breakdown Series Pt.8 📓 Gobos, cookie cutouts, flags, or whatever else you may call them 😅

👉 Gobo is short for “Go between optics” and they’re used to create shadows, textures, and additional depth in your compositions.

👉 Gobos can be made (like the one in this set), bought, or you could find natural options like tree branches, windows, or any other object with interesting shapes or patterns 🙂‍↕️

So let’s talk about it!

THE SETUP 💡consisted of two continuous lights. Yes you can use flashes, but it’s easier/faster to see how your gobo looks on the background when adjusting.

1️⃣ My key light was an Amaran Ray 660c from amaran with a 60in soft box, placed camera right.

2️⃣ My gobo light was an Amaran 300c with a fresnel attachment, the gobo was placed about 4-5 ft in front of the light to help create the distinct patterns on the backdrop.

The Grade 🖍️

Color grading your images helps create a distinct look to your composition and ultimately helps you discover your own personalized style to your work.

I do 90% of my color grading in Capture One | Photo Software , utilizing the levels tool and the color grading tool in the color tab.

ALWAYS pay attention to the unique textures in your composition, understanding how light interacts with different textures will make you much more intentional with your creative decisions and how you choose to light them!

Shot this like a clean editorial, but the real shift happens in the workflow.

Tethered straight into Evoto and started editing as I was shooting! I’m able to retouch, and clean up the backdrop on the spot 😮‍💨

Something that used to take hours to fix in post can be done virtually in real time now!

This was my first shoot using the Sony a7V from , hate that it took so long to get Camera Raw support in Capture One, but definitely loved the results 😍😮‍💨
