"Nightbergs of Bonavista"
May 20 & 21, 2019 - Bonavista, Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, North America

The natural beauty of Newfoundland is hard to put into words, and the kindness and hospitality of the people that call this island in the North Atlantic home is just as beautiful. In communities all across this Canadian province, Newfoundlanders welcome those of us that "come from away" with open arms.

Newfoundland is located in an area known as "Iceberg Alley," where each year chunks of ice from glaciers in Greenland and the Canadian Arctic are carried south along its coast, offering amazing viewing opportunities for locals and tourists, alike.

There are countless places to view the icebergs in Newfoundland, but the town of Bonavista is among the top. The "bergs," as most Newfoundlanders refer to them, are plentiful here, and a drive up Cape Bonavista to the Bonavista Lighthouse can offer views of them at every angle. The lighthouse was built in 1843 and has offered guidance to mariners at sea for generations, and still stands tall at the end of the cape.

We have traveled far, from the great state of Texas, USA, to see these majestic beauties, and it has already become one of the best destinations in our long journey. We believe this could become an annual trip, not only to see the icebergs, but to visit the many new friends we are making here. It is truly a special place, and if you get the opportunity to make the trip, then it will be something that you will remember forever.

“Long may your big jib draw.”

"Polar Bear Stare"

With virtually no natural predators other than humans, adult polar bears are very curious to their surroundings, and once they decide to check something out, there is little that stops them from their pursuit. Within just a few seconds, a polar bear can go from a simple, curious stare to a fast paced walk right towards their target, picking up speed and covering distance very quickly, leaving very little time to make an escape before they are right on top of you. It is exhilarating to experience, but it also makes you realize very quickly that these wild animals are at the top of the food chain for a reason.

Such beautiful, wild animals...

"Polar Bear Peek-a-Boo"

Being able to witness these magnificent animals in their natural habitat is an amazing experience, and to watch the younger bears play and wrestle around kept a smile on our faces. As with most young animals, their curiosity and playful energy is one of the cutest parts of nature. Every now and then, they line up for an awesome picture like this!

This was taken in Kaktovik, Alaska, on the northern edge of the 20-million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Please, feel free to share!

"Dempster in December"

The Dempster Highway in Canada's Yukon and Northwest Territories is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. The seemingly endless expanse of natural and wild beauty goes for as far as the eye can see, and then beyond - possibly one of the only places in North America that still has parts of completely unexplored land.

We first visited the Dempster during fall in the month of October earlier this year to film scenes for the movie Milky Way Across America, and immediately fell in love with its beauty and the people that we met here. It has always been a dream to visit the frozen Arctic during winter, and now that dream has been fulfilled, but, it has only grown the sense to explore places during seasons that few will get the opportunity to do. I have never seen anything like the midday Sun just barely making its way above the mountains on the distant horizon, and the stunning pastel colors that reflect off of the snow and ice covered everything. It is a cold that is beyond anything that I have ever felt coming from Texas, but a cold that has awoken something inside of me that I didn't know existed. I never understood why, or how, people would, or could, live in such a cold place, but after seeing just two seasons here, I have fallen completely in love with it. Each season just makes the others that much more special. We vow to return to see the 24 hour Sun one day, hopefully sooner, rather than later.

Lucky M**o and I feel very fortunate to be able to share images like this with our friends and anyone else that would enjoy them. We just point and click, and Mother Nature does the rest. The hardest part is just getting here, but this is what we do. We would be honored if you would share this message and ask your friends to come along on the Great North American Road Trip with us as we go into our final year of making a movie that has already taken us over 300,000 miles in the past three years. Simply "Like" and follow Ultimate Vagabond, and we will do the rest.

"Bridleless Bride"

Back in 2016, on the border of Glacier National Park in Montana, down a very long and rocky road with overhanging tree limbs and protruding bushes that left permanent pinstripes on my truck, I made my way to preside over the marriage of two horses. Most people do not know that I am an Equine Reverend, and I usually keep these types of ceremonies a secret, but this one was far too beautiful not to share.
