10 Summer Tips that you can save for later.
1. Start the day outside
Even 5 minutes on the porch with your coffee or letting your kids eat breakfast in the backyard can shift the tone of the whole morning. I would even go a step further, and go barefoot, feel the grass beneath you can be a very great grounding exercise.
2. Say yes to the hose
You do not need a big outing or a Pinterest activity. A hose, a sprinkler, and a few happy kids can carry an entire afternoon.
3. Keep a “boredom basket”
Fill a basket with simple things like chalk, bubbles, play scarves, cups, or stickers so you have an easy reset when the day starts to unravel.
4. Make one part of the day predictable
Summer does not need a rigid routine, but one anchor like popsicles after nap, quiet time after lunch, or a family walk after dinner can make the days feel a little steadier.
5. Let dinner be simple
A picnic on the floor, sandwiches on the porch, or breakfast for dinner absolutely counts. This is not the season to make every meal harder than it needs to be.
6. Keep a towel by the door
That is it. That is the tip. Summer somehow always ends in water, dirt, melted popsicles, or all three.
7. Take the activity outside
Legos, coloring, snacks, books, even screen time sometimes. A change of scenery can do wonders for everyone’s mood, including yours.
8. Lower the bar and call it magic anyway
Not every summer memory has to be a vacation or a big plan. Sometimes the moments your kids remember most are popsicles in the driveway and staying outside a little too late.
9. Create a quiet time rhythm, even if naps are gone.
A little rest in the middle of the day helps everyone. Books in bed, audio stories, coloring, or a movie can all count.
10. End the day slowly
A stroller walk, porch sitting, popsicles after dinner, or barefoot time in the backyard can be such a gentle way to close out the day and come back to each other.
