In-home family sessions will always hold a big chunk of my heart. There’s something so special about capturing the every day details…yes you may have picked up around the house more than usual and your whole family won’t always be as dressed up and put together as you are during the shoot…but the feelings are the same. The kids personalities shine through SO MUCH when they’re in their comfort zone and it reflects through the photos. The small dance breaks in the living room. Hanging out in mom and dad’s bed. Playing with their favorite toys outside. The feelings of “home” are the feelings that you can’t mimic anywhere else and that’s why in-home sessions have recently become an unexpected favorite. 🤍

“An amazing thing happens when you get honest with yourself and start doing what you love, what makes you happy. Your life literally slows down. You stop wishing for the weekend. You stop merely looking forward to special events. You begin to live in each moment and you start feeling like a human being. You just ride the wave that is life, with this feeling of contentment and joy. You move fluidly, steadily, calm and grateful. A veil is lifted, and a whole new perspective is born.”

Hiiii!!
I accidentally forgot posting on instagram existed for the last year…🫣
It’s been so long since I’ve posted I feel like I need to do a whole introduction again but I won’t bore y’all with all that. Instead I’m just going to share a few photos from our first anniversary shoot that I still haven’t shared (from October 2023!) and try to do better with posting from here on out again. I can’t wait to share so much work over the past year of my wonderful clients who somehow still find my instagram despite it being pretty inactive. But until then, here’s a somewhat outdated photo carousel of me and my husband. 😆

Been busy with the holidays and trips to new places and honestly just feeling completely burnt out on social media for a while. So, I haven’t shared anything from some of my favorite galleries I’ve ever created from MONTHS ago and I can’t wait to start sharing EVERYTHING.

First up is this most precious newborn session I had the privilege of capturing in Dalhart in late summer. I’ve quickly realized that in-home sessions are some of my absolute faves. They’re so uniquely personal to every single gallery and I can’t wait for many more of these. ✨

I’ve had the honor of having Heidi in front of my lens multiple times over the last year. She booked me for a seasonal senior shoot and it has been a joy to see her regularly for the past year. I’m kinda sad they’re all done but so ready to see where she goes from here! 🫶🏼

This past week has really made me miss the cooler weather in Oregon. Still absolutely obsessed with how amazing this shoot in Pacific City, Oregon was with the most amazing crew.
I also wouldn’t mind recreating this shot. ✨

8 lessons I've learned the hard way as a photographer who primarily works from home:

1. Don't wake up and get on your phone first thing in the morning. Nothing ruins productivity more than this.

2. You know more than you think you do when it comes to the work you do.

3. Trying to learn something new? Google everything and actually follow through and/or practice what you learn.

4. Don't wait for opportunities to come to you. You have to go out and create them for yourself.

5. Invest in education and learning. It will pay off in the long run.

6. ALWAYS prioritize your clients over profit.

7. You can’t do everything yourself. As much as you'd like to try.

8. You need support. Find people who lift you up and keep them around.

Any other business owners relate to any of these, or have anything to add?

All the things you need for an amazing family session.

1. You. Your lover and your cutie kid(s). I mean, this one’s pretty obvious but it’s something you need there.
2. A photographer that loves the heck outta you and will do everything in their power to help make the process as easy as possible and capture your family in the best way they know how. Make sure you find someone you trust to be able to handle anything that gets thrown their way.
3. Don't sweat it if it doesn't go exactly as planned, because in all reality, it probably won’t. Kids are kids and can be expected to act as such. That’s why choosing the right photographer is SO important.
4. And last but NOT least, a good ole deep breath to rela###. Because it's an amazing day to capture your family.

And that's it. These are basically all the things you need to know to create an amazing family session. Easier than you thought huh?

Is there anything you feel I should add?

I do really good with posting for a while and just as quick I drop off the face of Instagram for a while, it’s an unending cycle for me…
Anyway, here’s my first post of the week, or possibly my only post for the month, who knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I share quite a bit about God on here. And want to know the biggest thing it's taught me? Not to judge others. I don't agree with a lot of things that are "ok" in the world we live in now. I have my beliefs and I'm not ashamed of them.
They're biblically backed and God is the only one I aim to please.
Now, having said all that. I will NOT judge you if you don’t believe everything I believe. It isn't my place. So so so many things hurt my heart and I want to reach out and say something, but I always try to pray about it first and the majority of the time I hear a small whispered "it's not time." So instead I just share my own heart and my own story and hope and pray it will help someone find the Light, Jesus Christ. Because no matter how dark this world gets, His light never dims and in Him we can all have an eternal hope. 🤍 If you’re curious or ever want to talk about this more, I’m always open to chatting!
Hope you all have the best weekend! 🫶🏼
