It's Master's week and I've got golf on the brain.

It's also Thursday so here is a throw back I took of Lucas hitting a beauty during a high school golf tournament held last year.

My lens, which I love, is tiny compared to the lens's that the photographers use at the Masters. So what?! We work with what we have.

This is my wife's favorite golf photo of mine. It's our son. It captures the action on an early spring day when he hit a great shot on a tough course under pressure. I think I agree with her.

It's not Augusta. It's not Bryson, Scotty, Sergio or Phil. It's not amazing to some. It's none of those things.

What is though, is it is mine and ours and I wouldn't trade it for one of those.

It's a beautiful sunny day outside. You've got an itch to get outside. You decide to close up shop for the rest of the day to enjoy the outdoors. Which sign are you hanging?

Gone Fishing?

Gone Golfing?

**I took this photo on March 8th at Callaway Gardens Lakeview Course while waiting on the players to arrive at their starting hole for their second round of the West Georgia Invitational golf tournament. They played two rounds in one day.

While watching the boat cross the pond and walking the course to find the spot that I wanted to photograph the players I kept thinking how great it would be to be able to play golf or fish that day. It was certainly a beautiful place to do either. Taking photos wasn't a bad option either!

A couple of bunker shots from the Micheal Diem Invitational played on 3-3 25 that illustrate some of the light and speed challenges faced in golf photography.

These images were taken on holes 4 and 5. The bunkers were separated by a large pond. These players came through at different times of the day.

As the day progressed the lighting changed dramatically. The shade from the tree canopy on hole 4 coupled with the harsh sunlight shining on the bunker and reflecting from the pond made the lighting on that hole a challenge.

The lateness of the day, the cloud cover, and the hill blocking the nearly set sun made hole 5 a completely different challenge.

Shooting in less light requires lower shutter speeds to allow more light to reach the lens. This leads to blurry motion captures.

While the player's challenge was to pull off a great bunker shot with their golf club. Mine was to pull off a great bunker shot with my camera. No one likes to see blurry sports photos.

I think I pulled it off. It was fun.

Golf season has started. I was able to spend a day at a gorgeous course under beautiful weather conditions at Crystal Falls Golf Club in Dawsonville Georgia.

I was there to photograph players on the South Forsyth High School golf team during a tournament they were hosting. Here are few of the images from the day with more to come.

It was a long day and we finished after dark but it was great to be back at it.

I saw some great golf on a challenging course. I saw some young players start to figure things out on the course. I heard some solid coaching and sadly some not so good coaching. I saw teamwork and sportsmanship being displayed by young men who are learning all about life, sport, and how the two are intertwined.

While it eventually turned bitter cold at the end, all-in-all it was a great day.

I made adjustments for angles and big swing in lighting changes throughout the day. I got better at my art. I captured some images that I'm proud of and had fun doing it.

If you're eve in Dawsonville GA, try to make it a point to play this course before if becomes fully private. You'll be glad that you did.

My first self portrait.

Taken in my basement on November 15, 2022. I used:

A Nikon D7000 camera with a remote and set to "aperture setting."

The lens was the kit's Nikkor f3.5- 5.6 18-140 mm lens at 35mm and 4.46 aperture.

Backdrop was a black bed sheet.

Lighting was a softbox with continuous light.

I had never tried something like this before. I learned more than I thought that I would.

Seeing this photo today after all this time, I'm learning still. I think I'll have to book myself for another session.

I loved this car. A green '72 Pontiac GTO convertible. It stood out at a car show that we found by accident in Dawsonville Georgia. It was beautiful. I wanted it as soon as I saw it.

The owner allowed me to photograph Kim in the car. It was a fun day.

Every now and then this beauty pops into my head and I'm reminded of how badly I wanted it.

Today is one of those days.

Great advice here.

Great advice here.

This is a response to a request for a film wedding photographer in my local pages.

To meet increasing client demand, the market has become inundated with informally trained digital photographers adding a few rolls of lab-developed/digitized film (often shot with consumer grade cameras) to their packages and calling themselves hybrid photographers.

Of course there are many legitimate hybrid photographers, but they shoot 35mm and 120.

Never pay money to anyone who pitches that they shoot β€œ120mm.”

And be sure to ask these hybrid photographers how many finalized photos they typically deliver on film and do they cover the entire event on film.

The number should be in the hundreds and they should answer β€˜yes’ if you want any significant amount of your wedding to be represented on film.
