Inspiring the next generation of filmmakers is one of our favorite things to do. We recently had the pleasure of hosting the South Kamloops Secondary School (SKSS) Film Club for a field trip at our Vancouver facility!

During their visit, the students participated in an intensive cinematography workshop designed to introduce them to the Vancouver film industry. Our team guided them through the basics of filmmaking, providing hands-on experience with premier cinema cameras and lenses, as well as hands-on training for Steadicam operation.

Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity reminds us why we love this industry. A big thank you to the SKSS Film Club for visiting - we can't wait to see what you all create next!

What a weekend! ☀️ We had an absolute blast at the J.L. Fisher Industry Mixer & BBQ.

We had an amazing time connecting with you all, talking shop, and soaking in the community energy. It was a pleasure teaming up with OLD FAST GLASS - Cinema Lens Rentals to bring out some heavy-hitting gear! Attendees got hands-on time with the Sony Cine VENICE 2, ARRI ALEXA 35, and the ALEXA 65.

We loved seeing everyone test out the ancientoptics TAMASHII, STATERA Anamorphics, and PETZVALUX Primes, along with the incredible OFG Long Shot! A major highlight of the day was seeing the ALEXA 65 paired up with some our large-format offerings: the The ASC Todd AO 65mm Primes and Ancient Optics Series 65s. 🎥

We sat down with DP Brandon Cox, an AFI Conservatory graduate and twenty-four-year martial artist, to discuss his second collaboration with director RZA, starring Shameik Moore. Brandon walked us through his Shotdeck-based visual development process — printing over a hundred reference sheets to build the film’s look with RZA from the ground up — the decision to shoot on ARRI Alexa Mini with Hawk V-Lite Vintage ’74 anamorphics, and a grade pushed hard into 1970s exploitation film territory by design.

A TRIBE CALLED LOVE is NOW PLAYING in theaters across Canada!

The debut feature from writer-director Mohamed Ahmed, A TRIBE CALLED LOVE is a Romeo-and-Juliet story of unrequited love set within a Somali community in Toronto, told across two time periods, with a bold visual language.

We sat down with DP Liam Higgins to discuss his cinematography for the film, partnering with Keslow Camera, and the philosophy behind building images that make you forget you're watching a movie - alongside an incredible cast including Dalmar Abuzeid and Feaven Abera.

[On picking the ARRI ALEXA 35,] "I wanted something that was relatively a very condensed package just in terms of size so that it allowed us to be a little bit more nimble... The in-camera textures gave us a little bit more of a baked-in film look, which is something we really wanted to explore.

I feel Canon K35s are particularly flattering on darker skin in the way that the highlight rolls off, and in the way that the actual lenses themselves fall off. It contributes to it feeling very painterly in close-up moments while not being too oversharpened for a digital sensor... The thing that I liked a lot about it is that you're constricted to only using five lenses... I could express more of a continuous thought pattern throughout the project.

Stephanie Fagan (VP of Business Development, Keslow Camera Toronto) was right outside there on set with us, and it just felt as if she wanted to see what was going on and she wanted to be a part of understanding what we were doing...
