❤️ Happy Valentine's Day from the Crown Records Page! Cornetist/trumpeter Tommy Gott and Anna Hinkle wed in 1922, and they remained together for nearly 34 years, until Tommy's death in 1956. The couple may have met in 1921 while both worked in the same Broadway musical production - Anna as a member of the chorus and Tommy as a member of Vincent Lopez & His Kings of Harmony. The name of the show: "Love Birds." Aw!! ❤️❤️ (photo from Tommy's passport application, 1923)

Thank you Crown Records! Happy New Year & Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Thank you Crown Records! Happy New Year & Feliz Ano Nuevo!

A Crown Birthday. Pianist and bandleader Vincent Lopez was born Antonio Lopes (Jr.) on 30 December 1895 at 488 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, New York. Crown gave label credit to Vincent Lopez & His Orchestra on two sides: La Seduccion and Queja Pampera, and his presence has been inferred from other Latin-themed Crown titles by the San Remo Arcadians and the Seville Rumba Band because later re-pressings on the Varsity label credit "Lopez & His Orchestra." You can decide for yourself whether these rare records are by Vincent, thanks to archive-dot-org. Vocalists Elmer Feldkamp and Harold Van Emburgh go uncredited on Varsity: https://archive.org/details/78_lamento-esclavo-song-of-the-slave_lopez-his-orchestra-lascalle_gbia8003088/01+-+AMAPOLA+(Pretty+Little+Poppy)+-+LOPEZ+%26+HIS+ORCHESTRA.flac

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who these fellows are? On the left is bandleader Vincent Lopez. On the right is trumpeter and composer Bob Effros and this being his 125th birthday, he is the subject of this week’s “One Thing in Common” edition of the show. You’ll hear a detailed biography and everything played on the show this week features “Grandpa Bob.” He played in Vincent Lopez orchestras from 1921 to 1927, so there’s a Vincent Lopez segment. We’ll also hear from the Boswell Sisters and Frank Crumit and hear several of Bob’s compositions. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Just click the link above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.

THANKS FOR LISTENING! ENJOY THE SHOW!
