I would like to formally reintroduce myself.
I'm Sarah Spann (formerly Jolly), and I'm a photographer in Western North Carolina. I've decided to sort of "rebrand" my business, starting with the name for obvious reasons, and I'll explain why. This might end up being a somewhat long post so I apologize in advance!
Recently, one of my photos was accepted into a group art show, which is currently on display at the courthouse (please go visit if you can, all of the art there is so good!). While this was a more casual show that pretty much anyone could enter, this was the first show I've been in where I felt like I had total control of what I was displaying, and the first time I actually felt proud of my displayed work.
This kind of got me thinking a lot about who I am as a photographer. I always wanted to be a nature/travel photographer, but in recent years I ended up falling more into portrait/wedding photography. And while I didn't exactly HATE it and I met some really amazing people, I found myself getting burned out very quickly. It really felt like I was doing it just for the money rather than the passion.
So, I've decided that I'm not really going to offer portraits or weddings anymore. I may do it on a case-by-case basis but I'm not going to actively promote myself for that work. My main focus going forward is what I'm truly passionate about: nature, beauty, travel, conservation. I'd love to use my photographs to spread awareness about wildlife conservation someday. That's the end goal, I suppose.
Thanks everyone for following me on my journey so far. I'm still offering prints, even just a like or a share helps. I'm looking forward to whatever's next! ✨
