Here is another image I captured this summer from the Outer Banks—the Bodie Island Lighthouse. A storm had just rolled through the area, but there was a small break in the clouds to the west that allowed for a little color in the sky.

A little over a week ago, someone posted a picture of a sunflower field on Facebook. I started doing some research to find its location. After finding it, I looked at different satellite images to figure out where I would park. I had hoped to get there earlier last week, but the weather didn’t cooperate.

Saturday’s weather was still iffy, but I decided to make the trip anyway. I had never scouted this location before, so I prayed for the best. For my first time visiting this location, I was very pleased with the results! 🌻

This location has been on my radar since last year. I scouted it last week both in person and on Google Earth. Space on the side of the road was tight with no pull-offs nearby, but on Monday night—after watching the sky and studying the forecast—I took a chance and headed to the parkway. To get the right perspective, I had to stand on top of my car. For my first time photographing this spot, I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

We’ve had a lot of rain at the OBX this week. Last night, I was sitting on the porch of our beach house when I noticed the skies beginning to clear to the west. I decided to head to the lighthouse and take a chance. I’m glad I did.
Unfortunately, I got stuck behind several slow vehicles and arrived about five minutes too late to catch the rainbow. The light after a storm is the best!
