Bob Keefer Photo My original hand-colored black and white photos evoke the Western landscape that I grew up in and love.

Shown in galleries around the West, these handcrafted artworks are for sale -- unframed, and at very reasonable prices -- here in my Facebook store.

So what else are you going to do all day Sunday? This is the last of the three big limbs that fell in the front yard, and it's now neatly cut, split, and stacked in the wood pile. And before you say anything, it's not strictly speaking true that I don't have eye protection on. My safety glasses are sitting on top of my hat, where I put them while adjusting the camera. And, yes, I only just noticed this myself.

Just finished this new hand colored photo of the Oregon woods; order the original on my website, BobKeeferPhoto.com.

And another photo from last week's trip to Malheur is getting a few glazes of acrylic paint. This great horned owl sat very peacefully for its portrait; it should be a beautiful picture when I'm done.

A hand-colored work in progress from our recent trip to Malheur Refuge and the surrounding area. This is a house east of Burns that was taken down by the weird slow-motion flood that hit the areas in the 1980s. We've watched this house slowly crumble over the years, even after the water went back down.

We all know that real artists only live and work in big cities, right? Wrong! I've been invited to be a guest curator for a juried exhibit of work by rural artists opening this summer at Umpqua Valley Arts in Roseburg. The exhibit, RURAL, will be open only to Oregon artists living in communities of 35,000 or fewer people.

I'm excited about the show, especially as a way of helping Oregonians bridge the urban/rural cultural divide.
Deadline for submissions is April 18. Details are on CaFÉ Call for Entry, at the link below.

Pheasants are chivalrous birds. At least these two males were as they dueled this evening at Malheur refuge. No curses were uttered. No one was injured. No blows, so far as I could tell, were even exchanged. Instead they went at each other with pedigreed verve and upper-class attitude for more than 15 minutes, with occasional breaks of polite recovery. "I got you a pretty good one that time," you could just hear one say to the other. "Twas nothing but a scratch," the other replied. Then they went right back at it.

This wary jackrabbit checked us out when we encountered it browsing the desert foliage during a recent visit to Eastern Oregon's Summer Lake. Will post the hand-colored black and white version when I can find it.

Got my vulture hat on, and it's a great morning -- feels like spring! -- to be out photographing in the woods.

I've just put up 10 new (and old!) hand-colored photos, including the group of small square-format images I posted about a couple days ago. Continuing the beginning of the year sale, they're priced very low, at $15 each for the 9x9s and $75 for the 18x24s. Prices may return to sanity at the end of the month. Have a look!
