008. “mold together”
Cosplay Artists: Elocinecko and Starnold
Cosplay Piece: Female and Male Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect series
Convention: Anime NebrasKon 2013

What Drew Elocinecko and Starnold In:
A young married couple is a great example of how cosplaying together is another form of expression in the cosplay community. Both die-hard fans of the series Mass Effect for the storyline, these two have enjoyed playing the series together - loving both the option to choose male or female for the main character’s gender, as well as each game's diverse styles. Back in 2013 when Worbla was just starting to be used and explored within the community, Elocinecko and Starnold enjoyed the challenges and surprises that came with the nature of the medium. To Starnold, cosplaying does not just encompass showcasing their work, but the whole entire experience of planning, creating and learning together. Armor tended to be a pretty popular choice that year at the con, and these two received a lot of attention.
Elocinecko’s favorite part of cosplaying is working off the energy of other artists. She loves cosplaying with her husband as she feels “we can still do cute things together especially if we cosplay character couples from the same series”. Conventions have been a great experience for these two, as they’ve had the chance to meet people from all over and establish new friendships through a connection of fandom.

What Drew Me In:
What drew me to these two mainly was the fact that this cosplaying duo has been friends of mine since college, but regardless of that, couples cosplays are always intriguing. Elocinecko and Starnold, a young married couple wearing their ever-evolving male Shepherd and female Shepard cosplays, grabbed a lot of attention at NebKon ’13. It was fun how even during our mini shoot, in a hidden hallway, we were asked several times if attendees could take their photos. Be sure to check out their pages to see the updated versions of their work!

Because I can't not take pictures! I will be updating this album throughout the con with the talented cosplay artists "drew me in" - Britni

10/30/2014

With Anime NebrasKon dawning upon us tomorrow, we thought we would make a formal announcement. Due to life being awesome, and well stressful life in general, DI will be (obviously) taking it a bit slower. This year, Britni is taking the opportunity to experience the con as just a pure con-goer-with the hopes of not only enjoying herself but furthering her knowledge and experience in the cosplay world. We appreciate your continued following of DI and where this project takes us in years to come. But keep looking forward to periodically revealing more in our fine-art portrait series. However, B is pretty sure she won't be able to NOT take pictures and is scheming up a way to surprise you all with a few portraits from this year as well. So, be looking for B at the con itself! Or more, look for lace-version of Kiki on friday, Young Malon on saturday, and a good ol' Kigurumi of Rilakkuma on sunday. See you at the Ramada!

"Don't forget Oct 3!": Inquiring minds, don't worry we are still going strong! A blessed event has slow downed our process these past few weeks. Britni's, the creator of DI, best friend and first love proposed to her! AND SHE SAID YES! Kristopher, her intended is the wonderful mastermind behind the interview write ups if you didn't know! We are so beyond excited about this, as we not only continue to collaborate in life but also in our art! This date next year, we will be wed and venture into bringing you DI as one in God's blessings. Prayers and thoughts appreciated this next year.

007. "feed the hunger"

Cosplay Artist: Penny Logos
Cosplay Piece: No-face of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away
Convention: Anime NebrasKon 2013

What Drew Penny In:

Penny wore the taller-than-life cosplay that her friend made based on a group idea to be Studio Ghibli characters at Nebraskon 2013. They just finished Sogen Con, so stricken with “post-con depression” they jumped into NebKon to meet up with friends to feed the hunger. Her love for the big blob was his transition from being a raging monster to his doting and docile self at the end, “from a glutinous monster to just sitting cutely at Granny’s house knitting." Penny also remarked, “It is easy to really see other fans’ love for the character [cosplay].” This love was most fantastically displayed by one particular con-goer when Penny, who was suppose to run the Ghibli Photoshoot, actually got lost in the dealers room due to the limited vision the mask provides. Fatefully, it was then that a Chihiro cosplayer found her and proceeded to lead her by the hand out to the Zen Garden. As in the film, No-face found his place in the end through Chihiro. Penny must have also felt even more at home at the convention through the reaching out of a fellow-fan.

What Drew Me In:

Being a big fan of Studio Ghibli myself, I noticed Penny with a bigger group of Studio Ghibli cosplayers. After the interview I realize now that I must have spotted her right after her “encounter” with the Chihiro to the Studio Ghibli photoshoot! The height of her cosplay intrigued me as well, she was standing right next to the streetlight/bridge area, and a portrait that I had to take popped right into my mind. It was a fun surprise, and a bit of feeding my own fandom as well!
