Some mornings
memory doesnā€™t knock.

It lets itself in.

Dreams hand me a life
so convincing
I reach for it
before Iā€™m fully awake.

Then my cruel human body
reminds me where I actually am.

I open my eyes.

The house is still here.

Just not the one
Iā€™d already moved into.

A divine house of cards.

Beautiful enough
to mistake for a home.

I loved it
long after I knew
it couldnā€™t stand the wind.
