I no longer take portraits except as personal favors to friends or family. You may have noticed that I haven't been on here with any new portraits for a long time. It has never been something I really enjoyed doing. Art has always been my main interest, I like to paint landscapes and started using photography to record places I intended to paint or draw later. From there it evolved into using the camera to paint with light as an art form of its own. The images in the file “It's like painting with light” are more in line with what I really like to do with a camera. That being the case I am starting a new community page as a place to share this type of photography. Most of these images are made within a 60 mile circle of my home here in Coshocton Ohio. However I make images wherever I find myself. Sometimes that is the East Coast and sometimes it is West Texas or anyplace in between. There are landscapes from the area and a lot of old architecture and rural abandonment and decay.

Somewhere in an old barn in Licking County Ohio resides this old 1937 International Harvester truck. As I visited in the dusty old barn I swear I heard her whisper, "Resurrect me please...."

The pickings were getting slim on our little winter photo safari in North West Coshocton County. My eyes were tired of squinting through the low sun and I was ready to quit. The dirt road got skinnier we went around a sharp curve to the right and there it was. Make another mark on the map.

HARD KNOCK LIFE
OK, so Martin Charnin, the man that wrote the song lyrics to “Annie’s Tomorrow” evidently never saw this house. Because if he had spoke to its owner there would have been some doubt about the sun coming out tomorrow and clearing away the cobwebs and the sorrow.

No just kidding, the sun will come out tomorrow. A truck with excavating equipment will undoubtedly pull up in front of this place. One month later a new cardboard double wide will be standing here. The sad thing is that the new one won’t last as long as this one did, what do you suppose it will look like in a hundred years?
Of course… this place might have inspired Martin's other big hit, Its A Hard Knock Life.
