An adventure does not mean things go as planned. Most times it is the exact opposite.
I had been told about a great spot to photograph known by few. I was given good directions, but not exact location. OK. I go today to try to find and shoot this spot. I get to the parking area and wander the wrong direction for a couple of miles. I am still having a good time. Good hike, great scenery, and good exercise. It was very windy which made it very cold.
I head the other direction and find the spot. I was told it can only be reached during low tide. I planned ahead for this one. 🙂 I was hoping that the angle of the shot would allow me to capture the sunset. This is not possible at anytime of the year due to the direction of the composition. The best you can get is sunset cloud cover. This is after the sunsets and lights up the clouds with wonderful colors. This was also not going to happen because the marine layer rolled in.
Still OK.
The only way to get the composition I wanted was to climb the rocks and set up there. The rocks are wet and covered with green algae. Nasty smelling stuff. 🙂 .... more to follow....
It is one of the trickiest locations due to contrast and depth of field. There is no good focus point to lock on for the shot. I could have taken multiple shots with different focus points and "focus stacked". I chose multiple shots for contrast (light and dark) to create an HDR picture. I don't know how to do both at the same time, or if it even can be done.
The marine layer brought in the mist, even though the sun was out. Yes, that is right, mist on the lens.
Apparently there are enough people that know about this place to unexpectedly pop up while taking pictures.
Now the fun part. The only way I can get down off the rocks without slipping, falling and breaking equipment is to slide on my f***y down the wet algae covered rocks. Now my shorts, gloves, and pack are wet, cold and smelly. It makes for an great drive home. I carry towels, so it helped a little. 😃
***** Moral to this story is I found the spot, still had fun, and I get to go back and try again! This is another adventure that I get to keep as a memory. *****
