The Texas Surf Conservancy recently partnered with the on a sea grass restoration project in Redfish Bay, where board and staff members volunteered their time and talents—and their boats—to help remedy barren scars from various impacts. Project participants harvested the roots, rhizomes, and leaves of native seagrasses and transplanted the plugs in the waters near Harbor Island.

This team plans to conduct volunteer seagrass transplant events within approved sites at least annually over a period of five years—and the Texas Surf Conservancy is committed to remaining a supportive and active partner in this important coastal restoration project. Deployment Day!🎉

Our lab recently deployed biodegradable bags filled with Sink Your Shucks oyster shell that have Texas A&M AgriLife Center grown larvae settled onto them. The bags were placed in the Laguna Madre where they will hopefully grow into adult oysters that help protect our shorelines.🦪🌊

My first photo contribution to Texas Highways Magazine- what an honor and a delight to see my work in print!

For decades, dropping a line below a deep-sea oil rig has proven a bucket-list, high-octane fishing challenge. But now the rigs are disappearing from the Texas Gulf.

Since writer Paul Greenberg was a teen, he dreamed of fishing off an oil rig. During multiple trips to the Gulf to cover the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 for his book "American Catch," he’d almost gotten out to the rigs only to be deferred by wind and circumstance.

For the recent issue of Texas Highways, Greenberg finally made it happen.

But four decades after first hearing about rig fishing, things have changed profoundly in the Gulf. Some species have been overfished, regulations have turned things on their heads for others, and most recently "the rigs themselves are being ripped out, toppled over, or blown up," he writes.
