A first look doesn’t have to be perfectly planned, over-the-top, or filled with grand gestures to be meaningful.

This one was simple. No elaborate setup. No audience. Just two people taking a quiet moment before the day swept them away.

And honestly? Those are often the moments that hit the hardest.

The nervous smiles, the deep breath before turning around, the tears that show up unexpectedly, the way everything else seems to disappear for a few seconds. That’s what makes a first look special.

Not everyone wants a traditional studio backdrop… and honestly, that’s okay!

One of the most common things I hear is, “I love the look of in-home lifestyle photos, but I don’t want my house photographed.”

This setup was created with exactly that in mind.

A cozy bed, soft natural light, and plenty of room for snuggles, storytelling, newborn cuddles, maternity moments, or simply documenting your family as you are. It gives all the warmth and connection of an in-home session while still taking place in the comfort of the studio.

No paper backdrops. No stiff posing. Just a space designed to feel lived in, relaxed, and full of genuine moments.

Others feel like they were simply meant to be.

Yesterday was one of those days.

From the quiet moments before “I do” to the way they looked at each other all night long, Emily & Brian’s wedding was filled with the kind of love that doesn’t need to be announced loudly to be felt by everyone in the room.

A little business update from behind the camera.

This year, I’ve opened more session dates than ever before in an effort to accommodate more families and make booking easier for everyone. Unfortunately, with that has come an overwhelming increase in no-shows, last-minute cancellations, and unpaid bookings holding spots that could have gone to families on my waitlist.

I never enjoy talking about the business side of photography, but the reality is that when a session goes unfilled or someone doesn’t show up, that time can’t be replaced. It results in lost income, wasted preparation, and missed opportunities for clients who were hoping for a spot.

I’ve worked hard to keep my booking retainer as low as possible because I want professional photography to remain accessible. However, after experiencing this pattern repeatedly throughout the year, I may need to increase the retainer amount for future bookings.

Please know this isn’t a decision I’m considering lightly. My goal has never been to make booking more difficult. It’s simply to protect the time, preparation, and income that allow me to continue serving my clients and running my business.

To those who show up, communicate, respect deadlines, and support my small business, thank you. Truly. You are the reason I’m able to keep doing what I love. ❤️

Hold your babies a little longer tonight. Going through your motherhood mini photos makes me realize just how FAST mine have grown. I swear they were babies rolling around the play area and I blinked. Now they’re 6, going on 7. How, I don’t even know. Before I know it I’ll be taking their last ‘first day of school photos’ and crying their entire senior year. I know it may seem like you’re in the thick of it right now; defiant 2 year olds, 3 year olds testing your patience… but I promise those days go by so quickly and you don’t realize until they’re over. So rock them just a little longer tonight. Read an extra book to them. ENJOY the time you have with your little ones 🤎

The summer sun is finally clocking back in!
Barefoot evenings, golden light spilling through the trees, tiny hands tugging at dresses, grass glowing like it’s lit from underneath. Summer always feels less like a season and more like a memory being made in real time.

Here’s to slower nights, warm skin, firefly hours, and the kind of sunsets that make everything feel a little softer.
