Cosmic Chaos
August 12th, 2024, was a night that I will never forget. The aurora borealis, sometimes known as the Northern Lights, appeared above my house in Minnesota, much like as on May 10th this year. After May 10th, I decided to be more creative with my Northern Lights compositions and, if possible, include my house. On August 12th, after photographing the Northern Lights from inside the home, I walked outside around 12:15 am to capture them with my house. There was too much light on the street, with street lights flashing brightly. After some test shots, I realized I might be able to get some interesting shots as the northern lights intensified and began to swirl and twist, creating hypnotic patterns. I spent several hours alone outside, experimenting with various compositions. Just before returning, I captured a sequence of 60 photographs for timelapse and star trail creation. This image depicts the movement of the stars that night over the course of the 60 photographs in the sequence. I never anticipated that I'd be able to photograph the Northern Lights with my house in the composition, and the start trails really enhanced the scene. The spectacle eventually faded, and the lights disappeared into the background. But the memories of that night will live with me forever. It was so surreal and reminded me of the incredible power and beauty of mother nature.
