Lori Ann Thwing Photography Hi, I'm Lori Ann Thwing! In my baby book my mother wrote, "Lori loves all animals, both stuffed and real," and I am happy to say it still applies to me today.

I started photographing horses when I was volunteering as a Friesian foal handler and realized the foals grew up so fast that I wanted to capture those fleeting moments. I loved everything about the foals and their moms and it wasn't long before other people saw that through my photos. I have been photographing horses for the last 10 years. My photos have been showcased in The Friesian Magazine, S

imply Pets, The Morgan Horse Magazine, as well as part of the cover artwork for the movie Albion the Enchanted Stallion. More of my work is featured on Fine Art America and Zazzle. In 2021, a 10 year long dream of mine came true when I had a photo I took become the cover photo for the Friesian Magazine. I have also been the photographer for the Michigan Keuring and was asked to be the photographer for the Kansas and Michigan keurings in 2020. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, they were cancelled, but look forward to future keurings. I have had the honor to write two articles for the Friesian Magazine about how to photograph a Friesian for sale ads. My photos can be found featured on the FHANA website and I have also had photos in the FHANA calendar for the last four years. I have had the honor of photographing 19 approved stallions at keurings and presentations as well as have the pleasure to do individual shoots with seven of the approved stallions. I have also been photographing the candidates for the 70 day testing. "I absolutely love this breed and am so lucky to get to take pictures of them to show the world what I see." – Lori Ann Thwing

I am a self taught photographer. I am so excited to continue my learning by taking classes in photo editing in order to offer clients more fine art options. This new piece of my business is something I am very much looking forward to being able to offer to clients! I strive to create art that captures moments of unique beauty. Instead of chasing horses with ATVs, multiple people with whips or scaring them, I prefer a more gentle way of encouraging the horse to move naturally and gracefully. I like to take my time with them and capture the real moments of unexpected beauty that are reflected in the final product. I am based in Southwestern Michigan and will travel anywhere in the US. If you are interested in booking me to photograph your horse, please email [email protected] for more information.

As you know, I started my photography with foal handling. I am still a foal hander and barn manager for Majestic Friesians Horse Farm and my daughter has also become quite an amazing foal handler. I have found that gaining a solid relationship with a mare is key to bonding with and general handling and training of a foal. This c**t was born to a maiden mare and we never know how protective she will be over her foal but this mare showed is immediately that she not only tolerated our presence but encouraged it. From the photos you can see how relaxed and trusting she was of Mali and my presence with her and her foal. In fact, after I took these, we moved into the center of the pasture when her c**t got up to nurse, giving them space. When he had his fill, she walked him over to us as we sad in the pasture. He started engaging with us and she watched for a moment, then walked a few feet away and grazed on grass. Almost as if to say to me, "I watched over your girl, now you watch over my boy so I can get something to eat." She stayed within 20 feet while he played with us, learning lessons about personal space and how good it felt to be scratched and loved on. We spent a few hours with them like that, he played, romped, drank and slept in the warm summer sunshine. I hope you enjoy these photos, a reminder of how hard work and patience can pay off and what a privilege it is to work with these amazing horses.

Photography is still my passion but foal handling is in my soul.

1e Champion c**t Eros of Majestic Friesians Horse Farm has a wonderful home in California where he continues to be spoiled and loved by his new family.
Gabriella Angelina is owned and loved by Lori Calka Brock and is expecting her second foal this spring.

How's this for balance? This is a ster Friesian stallion by Eise 489 Sport Elite AAA , talk about athletic! Honestly, I love these types of photos, I wanted him to come right at me and boy did he. He was very respectful though, never coming too close but this eye contact is outstanding especially with him feet off the ground or balancing on one foot.

For me, it's easy to tell people who are as passionate about these horses as I am. The "oochie smoochie" photos are great and I love them but there is something about matching energy, confidence, and purpose that I love to capture with my camera. I also enjoy taking photos when people don't know I am doing it, none of these were planned but I suspect as many times as I have photographed him, Kai is started to expect that I am always paying attention.

Play date for my daughter's horses, Lugos (Pali TB) and Danni (KFPS Friesian) They are usually in separate pastures as they run around too much and Lugos gets all sweaty but the weather was nice enough to take his blanket off for a while so they could play.
