The Sweetest Kind of Ordinary
Six years ago, I met a family in the middle of a quiet but relentless battle: one filled with back-to-back court dates, emotional highs and lows, and so many unknowns about what the future might hold.
In 2022, everything changed. The judge’s gavel came down, and “foster” finally became “forever.”
Now, beneath the warm glow of a backyard sunset, I had the honor of photographing their new normal.
No courtrooms. No tears.
Just a homegrown garden, sweet tea on the table, and sticky s’more fingers.
Dad chasing the boys through the yard, their laughter echoing against the fence.
Mom swaying gently in her rocking chair, a quiet, peaceful smile on her face. The kind that only comes from knowing all her babies are safe, home, and hers.
This is the beauty of the after.
