I brought my camera to a party to take some pictures casually, and after a few of these, I decided to put my camera down. There were plenty of people documenting the experience, so I decided instead to socialize. As I moved from table to table, visiting with acquaintances and friends, one of them stopped me and asked, "Where's your camera?"
I explained that I had put it down because there were pl
enty of other people taking pictures, and I didn't want to step on any toes. What my friend said next was, admittedly, more profound than I was prepared for. "But no one has your unique perspective, and sees through your eyes the way you see it." I was almost shocked at the impact of the truth in her words. It was that moment that I faced the "I'm not good enough" demon for the first time as a photographer. Since then, I have approached my work as a living thing. My goal is to always grow as an artist in skill and creativity. The word in my business name, "Living", is an affirmation to always be open to opportunities for growth, and has the dual intent of capturing life, especially during the moments we most want to remember. I love photographing people. It's more than just an image. For the woman with self-image issues, I can help her to look her best, building confidence. For the professional needing images for business, living images help them put their best foot forward and showcase their unique personality. No memory is more precious than capturing the awestruck expression of a young child discovering something new, and making the moment last forever for moms is one of my favorite accomplishments, ever. Let's make memories that last!
