Men… take note!

Hunter reached out to me several months ago to schedule this session as a surprise for his wife, who had agreed to travel with him at 2 months postpartum (❗️) for a wedding he was in, on the weekend of her FIRST Mother’s Day!

All my moms out there know that taking a 10 hour road trip in the postpartum, just-trying-to-figure-everything-out phase is not particularly the most appealing 😅

It was SO sweet getting to capture this new phase of life for this precious family!

Golden hour is one of my favorite times of the day to capture bride + groom portraits!

It’s the hour or so right before sunset, where the lighting feels truly magical, making for some amazing portraits that are likely to be some of your favorites in your gallery.

I always work with my couples to build this into their timeline if it’s something they value!

While detail shots may not be the *most* important part of your day, they are still really meaningful to have!

You put a lot of thought + intention behind your invitation suite, rings, veil, shoes, florals, and other details—so let’s capture them!

Getting close up shots of these details helps tell the complete story of your day 🫶🏼

I always recommend gathering these items the week before your wedding day, so you’re not scrambling the morning-of trying to get them all together.

When you are deciding if you want to do a first look or not, ask yourself these three questions:

1- Do we value a more relaxed wedding day?
2- Are either of one us prone to feeling anxious?
3- Do we want to be able to spend more of the wedding day together?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to consider doing a first look!

Make sure to SAVE this for future reference if you’re not yet engaged or are in the early process of planning a wedding! 🫶🏼

One (of many) of my faaaav parts of a wedding day is seeing the bride with all of her besties 🥹 It’s so rare to have that time together with *all* of your favorite people (often times it’s people you don’t get to see in-person much anymore!)

There’s always so much joy + laughter that’s soooo contagious. It’s such an honor to get to capture those special memories forever!

The most underrated planning tip… prioritize engagement counseling (also called pre-marital counseling)!

Get referrals/recommendations to find a GOOD counselor, and it will be the best money you’ve ever spent. I highly recommend finding a counselor who is trained in Prepare/Enrich.

You’ll walk away with real tools on how to *actually* communicate with your specific person, especially when conflict arises. Communication issues are one of the top 5 issues that cause marriages to fail!

It’s also so important to make sure each person’s expectations are understood (even down to which chores each person would expect the other person to “own”) and make sure you’re vision, values, + beliefs are aligned (because it can cause BIG problems with they’re not).

Your getting ready space may seem unimportant… However, it sets the tone for your whole day!

You want a space that provides adequate room for everyone to get ready at once (don’t forget the moms + sisters + sometimes grandmas also like to utilize this space as well!), without feeling like everyone is on top of each other or like there isn’t enough space for everyone’s stuff (and TRUST me, there is *always* more stuff than you might imagine 😅).
