Bear Country, Lake Kawkawak. Getting there is a few day trip even more now! Glad I made it there before the road said goodbye. I left a 100 foot rope so next time I go it wouldn't take all day, straight shot over the mountain. Hopefully I get to use it again someday.

Didn't make it over this time. But with an extra day I have a pretty good route saved that would be more manageable. Hiking with a 7 year old we only averaged .5 miles an hour! So definetly need an extra day. Ran out of water and being unsure how far to the next source we went back down to the Creek to play it safe. The natural spring feeding the creek was the best water a guy could ever put on his tounge. And it was the most silent trip. No water running at the upper lake, no birds, no wind just dead silent and I hear fingers snapping and a huge tree comes down behind camp in the middle of the night. Always some wierd things happening in this Ă¡rea.
Here's a picture of Bettys Jugs which was also a goal of mine this weekend. This area has seen massive changes after the floods last fall.

Just mapped out a new route to try for this weekend! Hoping to sneak into some of those high lakes off Suiattle, from the back side since there is no driving up Suiattle anymore. Where there's a Will there's a way!

The hikes sure do not get easier, but the destinations get appreciated more and more every year.
