I don’t want to JUST take pretty pictures. I want you to FEEL something when you look at your gallery. I want you to feel the joy, the love, the chaos. I want to take pictures you print, hang on your walls, fill albums with, and treasure for a lifetime.

I want to capture you, your love, your family, your life in all its realness. So often the beauty of what we see isn’t truly appreciated until you see it in a picture; it is my goal to show you those in between moments you may have missed.

I’ve had parents message me months, even years after a session saying, “I didn’t realize how much I’d value these.” Because it’s not just about the day of the shoot. It’s about what happens after. When life changes. When they grow. When you look back and feel it all over again. That’s the kind of storytelling I’m here to give you.

You’re doing the hard bit right now. Getting everyone ready, out the door and outside at sunset. But future you will love you for it when they have these memories to look back on for years and years to come

One of my favorite parts of this job is hearing how families felt during their session, not just how they felt about their photos.

"A lot of comments about working with Courtney mentioned that she is good with kids. I had my doubts but they were swiftly disproven. She isn’t just good with kids in a friendly way. She utilized many verbal tricks so they were having fun with the photo shoot and smiling the whole time. I have one photo from another photographer of my kids smiling and that was only because I was secretly tickling them. Every photo from Courtney shows off their smiles and goofiness and she captured us having fun together. She was steady and unbothered by the inevitable chaos kids bring. The turnaround in receiving the finished photos was great and I am so happy with the images. Definitely look forward to working with her again and have already started mentioning her to friends."

This is exactly what I hope every family experiences.

One of the things I hear most from parents before their session is, “But my kids are NOT going to sit still for pictures.” 😂

Good news…they don’t have to!

Your session isn't about getting everyone perfectly posed and looking at the camera for 45 minutes. There’s movement, laughter, cuddles, games, little prompts, and plenty of opportunities for your kids to simply be themselves.

Some of my favorite images happen in the moments in-between; the giggles, the hugs, the way your little one reaches for you, or that look you give each other when you realize how quickly they're growing.

So if you’ve been putting off family photos because you’re worried your kids won’t cooperate, let’s take that pressure off.

An open letter to everyone that says, “Oh don’t worry, it all goes by in a flash.”

She knows that already. She’s heard those words before. She knows she needs to sniff her child’s head and commit their hand dimples to memory.

She knows that the days are long, but the years are short. She knows they’ll be borrowing her car keys soon enough.

What I urge you to do instead?

Stop protecting her future heart, and prioritize caring for her current one.

She’s overwhelmed. She’s elated. She’s really freaking tired. She worries. She’s in love times a million bajillion. She’s busy. She’s all the heart eye emojis. She’s concerned that the ratio of head sniffing vs. raising her voice in frustration, isn’t at the ‘correct’ equation.

So, what should we replace all of these well meaning reminders with?

Make her a coffee. Send her a text. Or a stellar meme.

Give her a hug. Like a proper, verging-on-a-little-too-long-kinda-hug.

Listen to her. Because her feelings about that list above? They’re real.

She’s still BEYOND grateful, of course! And she knows that it can all feel excruciatingly slow AND fast.

That’s just the way it goes. It’s all very, Alice in Wonderland, isn’t it? So just support her. She needs it.

Even if she doesn’t say so. Especially if she doesn’t say so. We need each other, ok?

Some people say “you’ll miss the bump.” And you might roll your eyes because honestly right now you just want to lie on your stomach while you stuff your face with sushi.

You want to breathe without feeling winded. Eat a meal without heartburn.Sleep for more than 90 minutes at a time.

But then one day it’s gone.

And you’re holding your baby and wondering how you already forgot what it felt like to have them in your belly.

These photos aren’t for now. They’re for later. For the version of you that looks back and realizes how deeply moving this whole experience was and how much it changed her.
