I’ve loved documenting all of these performances though. I’ve seen so much local talent this month and seen so much talent that has toured through Columbus. I know I didn't always think it growing up—but I'm convinced—I'm lucky to live here. It’s been great to be able to shoot at small venues and big venues (*cough* sneak in my camera). I will say, I’ve noticed, now more than ever, that performanc
e is like gambling. It doesn’t matter if you are in the high-roller room or a smaller stakes room, you can still get that high of winning, regardless of the venue. The small rooms might be a little more raw at times, but the essence of the game is the same. You still get to witness an artist create something new, something unique, and something that connects and transcends everyone in that room. My goal for larger venues, has been to try and capture those intimate moments that might get a little buried on the big stage, but can still be found. One takeaway from all of this is: I encourage folks who enjoy live music, live comedy, and theater to check out the many great local music clubs, open mics, improv groups, and local theaters. These shows are totally accessible, reasonably priced, and amazing. There are so many more venues and shows I want to check out and photograph. I'm really stoked to be able to capture and share these images and performances with you. Don’t get me wrong, I love photos, but I hope to see you out at the next show: when a comedian is killing it, a band is in perfect harmony, or an actor is transcending us to another world. That’s gotta be better than watching last night’s episode of Splash on ABC
Thanks to all the super talented bands, comedy troupes, speakers, comedians and venues that have let me do my thing while sharing your thing. I really appreciate it.
