Thank you for the bottom of my heart for such a beautiful year of supporting births 🫶🏻 a true honor and privilege to get to do this work! I keep thinking I’ll have to give it up as I have more of my own babies but the lord has been gracious to allow me to keep supporting you! Just so so grateful 🥹

I am so grateful to all of my clients and potential clients who have been so gracious as I have been busy this summer chasing 3 littles, supporting dozens of births and carrying our 4th baby! I am getting closer to my own birth and I will be trying to give myself time to be present with our newborn. If my responses are delayed please forgive me and know that I will reach back out as quickly as I can! As for my availability I am full for the rest of 2024. I will be selective about clients I can take in the early part of 2025 and will be taking 1-2 clients a month stating in May. ✨✨ blessings!

When I first became a doula I felt like I needed to heed the advice and direction of other doulas, whether in my community or on Instagram. They had strong opinions on this is how you should and shouldn’t be a doula and I was intimidated to do anything “wrong”. I was new and I wanted to be liked and get clients. In my mind I was willing to be any kind of doula to fit the clients’ needs.

Quickly I learned that that was not what I was called to (and neither are you). You will not be successful by trying to be someone else. What makes you successful is being YOU. People are paying for YOUR services. Whatever it is that sets you apart is why your clients are hiring you and this is how you’ll get your ideal client.

I made a vow to not be afraid to be a CHRISTIAN doula. I’m not just a doula who is a Christian because my first identity is in Christ. He has called me to this work and I seek first to glorify him in my service to women.

I just want to encourage other doulas or aspiring doulas to be confident in who you are as a doula. You have something special to offer your client.

Trust your calling
Trust your training
Trust your intuition

I wanted to share some things that were helpful during my immediate postpartum with my third baby! This isn’t all encompassing because there’s a lot that can be beneficial for your healing like lots of rest, healing meals, physical and emotional support from family or friends — but these were some things that I really leaned on in those early weeks 🤍

Hey! Just an update on origin birth — I have added birth photography back in as a service I’m offering. This is something you can add to your existing doula package or I can do just birth photography to capture your story however you want it. I have limited space for the rest of the year and am taking some time off in 2023. If you are having a fall baby here is my availability:

SEPT — 1 or 2 spots open
OCT — 2 spots open
NOV — 1 spot (early Nov only)

That’s it folks!

Birth Story: Doula
Get a doula!
For those unsure of what a doula is...A doula is a trained birth support person who provides continuous physical, emotional + informational support to a mother before, during + shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. (Definition from DONA.org)
My doula .strapp of .birth was with me as soon as I wanted her available when labor started until around an hour after birth. .
One of the most significant changes I can recall during labor was when my contractions were becoming so intense that I couldn’t help but release my pain with powerful breathing noises. She calmly taught me how to change my breath to a low groan and during the next contraction, my pain significantly decreased!
A few coping measures Chelsea also helped with: counter pressure against my hips, warm water on my back, taught nick how to comfort me, handed Nick water for me between contractions, held my leg in place to open my hips with a peanut ball, comforted and explained to Nick any medical interventions (in moments the nurses had to act quick instead of take the time to make sure we understood what they were doing) after birth assisted us with the breast crawl, & heaps more.
This was just at the hospital.. Before birth, she was periodically checking on me not only to see how I was feeling physically but emotionally as well. Toward the end I was so anxious but was comforted with the reminder that my baby will come when it’s his time.
After birth, Chelsea came to check on us and brought a warm meal and essential oil “bottom spray” (*not all doulas provide this treatment 😉).
As I’ve mentioned before, postpartum was hard and scary and emotional. Having support people who understand birth and what your body went through is so important!!
I experienced so many new things postpartum I never expected, but having someone to reach out to during such a fragile time made it much less daunting. .
Chelsea was our doula but never stopped being a part of our lives after her services were no longer needed. .
Get a doula. Your birth story, your partner, your health, and your sweet

This baby came so fast there was no time for any doula-ing! So special to be at both of their daughters’ births though!

Hey there! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working! I’m Chelsea — creator of Origin Birth. My hope has always been to expand Origin beyond birth photography in order support moms in all season and from all backgrounds. I have lots of ideas and plans for what that looks like but for now I am offering birth doula services and lactation counseling! Soon we will have a second doula on the team, Ellie who is about to have a baby of her own! We don’t plan to be super active on social media but we hope to post updates every now and then! Stay tuned 🧡
