With the holiday season comming up Fine Art America has some coupon codes/ offers comming up. If you've been thinking about ordering some wall art from my page this is a great time to save a little money. On November 28th and December 1st, they are going to offer 25% off. Happy to answer any questions you might have.

Here is the last photo I plan to post of last week's Aurora display. All of them are on the webpage for ordering if you wish. This photo is at Strahl Lake, this was as the substorm built intensity and would eventually push through well overhead. Just fascinating.

I hope you'll enjoy this timelapse taken during Wednesday's Aurora display. Some lessons learned on this one, the first half of the clip is a little over exposed. But the substorm over Strahl Lake was quite impressive.

Unfortunately I missed the first part of it. As you can see in the video, the Aurora had calmed. I packed up and headed to Strahl lake just to see what I might capture. An incredible burst happened at around 11:45 and the sky lit up. I walked to the lake with only a single camera. I ended up having to walk back to the car twice to deal with low batteries. Enjoy

Wow, what a night. We've had some tremendous opportunities to see the Aurora borealis way further south than we normally can due to the solar maximum cycle, which we are on the way down from. You wouldn't tell it from last night's display. I was not prepared! Fingers crossed we may get to see it again tonight. I have quite a bit of content to share with you all after I have a few days to process it. I hope you all were able to see the display and hang around for the huge substorm that broke off at about 11:45 EST.

While camping at near by Starve Hollow, I took a short drive to the Medora covered bridge to try and get a glimpse of the C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) Comet. I got lucky to capture it just before the clouds rolled in, seen above the horizon.

The Medora Coverd Bridge is the longest covered bridge in the United States at 431.XX ft. Having not been to this bridge at night i was not aware of what the lighting would be like. Luckily the lighting inside was rather dim and I was able to get this scene in 1 exposure.

Got a small sliver of time towards the end of the trip where the moon had not risen but the sun had set. As you drive the Needle's highway this 'Needle's Eye' isn't readily visible while driving, you have to get out of your car and stand in this little nook on the opposite side to see it.

'X Marks the Spot'

As we hiked up to Avalanche lake and the trail opened up, this was the view we were treated to. Immediately, the symmetry afforded by the light coming in off the top of the mountain was striking. The contrast between light/shadow and mountain/water giving a nice center focal point.

Well I have some good news and some bad news.

Good news is I had a great trip out west with the lrimary destination being Glacier National park and saw lot of simply amazing sights that I want to share with you.

Bad new is, the timing could not have been worse from a full moon standpoint with regard to astro shots. Towards the end of the trip I had a few hour window and clear-ish skies while visiting the black Hills, which I will share later.

For now, check out this short clip without sound. Mainly because wind picks up and makes noise. Also because I was slightly out of breath. This is the Grinnell Glacier lake overlook. The lakes bright blue color is given to is by the Glacial 'flour' suspended in the water. As the water flows down stream to other lakes it is diluted and loses the color. We were about to get hit with some rain on this trail, so you can see the pocket of sunshine traveling slowly accross the surface of the lake.

Enjoy!

Here is my last content from the Aurora Borealis display last week. This was a 15 minute timelapse, which turned into less than 3 seconds of video time, so I stretched it out a bit which its why its a little blocky.

I only had a single camera body so the I was unable to commit to a longer timelapse. :)

Never would I ever imagined myself to be in a position to get the picture below!

We were vacationing in Gatlinburg, TN and saw the chatter about the almost certain display of Aurora Borealis that would hit us in a few days. On our last night with clear skies, I headed out to Kuwohi (formerly Clingman's dome) in the Great Smoky Mountain National park. I could already see the Aurora dancing from the parking lot when I arrived. I did NOT want to miss this, so I scrambled as best as anyone reasonably could up the 1 mile/340ft climb trail with a certain excitement but a little bit of apprehension. Even though I had my bear spray on my belt, I am not entirely comfortable with the idea of shooting astro in bear country.

There were a few other photographers at Kuwohi when I arrived but not too many, it was a very friendly atmosphere and virtually everyone was pretty smart by avoiding use of headlamps or artificial light. We had a half moon behind us to help illuminate the landscape.

What a treat to be in a wonderful national park and able to capture such an iconic structure with the backdrop of the Northern lights!

I will be posting a few more pictures as I get to them (probably tomorrow).
