Eastland Mall, Columbus Ohio. Now, just a derelict old building, it was once a promising icon of Suburbia when it opened in 1968. Passing by on my daily commute, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the large spaces and looming presence of this abandoned structure.

This must be on the list of “Coolest Houses in Central Ohio”. It is the house that inspired Rush Creek Village, the largest collection of Usonian homes in the United States.

Usonian is an idea most notably used by Frank Lloyd Wright to describe a style of Architecture that incorporates the land as much as the people into the design of a home. It is characterized by native materials, lots of natural light, unique design, and an incorporation of the surrounding landscape. No two houses are alike, yet they all share common elements and overarching themes.
