I feel like it’s so hard to share a full wedding day on instagram.
There’s just not enough space or slides to accurately tell the story of the day. You miss tiny pieces of the whole story.

I’m big on documenting touch. Hands held or clasped. Dabbing tears away. Side by side as you watch your daughter commit to her person- together.
It’s all a huge part of narrative for me. I’m constantly looking for tiny touches that’ll feel so big later on because they’re moments you didn’t even know happened.

It’s hard to convey all the tiny touches and details of an entire wedding day on Instagram, and yet here I am trying my best to show you (even in the slightest) so many different moments that happened on this day.

And just like that Dean is one year old.

I’ve captured every 3 months of his first year, documenting him as he grew and I am in shock that it flew by so fast.

Watch out, because he’ll be joking the in no time flat.

Proof you can be yourself and add a mix of editorial elegance.
Pretty photos don’t mean you have to sacrifice what makes you unique.

D & B are the silliest and funniest people to everyone around them. Their laughs and jokes are infectious. They wanted photos that showed that because it’s a core part of their relationship. But D is a queen and wanted to level up and bring some bridal elegance to it. And they killed it.

This is why it’s so important to not only have an engagement session with your wedding photographer but to discuss your expectations. I always ask my couples what they’re like together, and how they want their photos to feel. That way you’re getting the gallery of your dreams.

As I’m in the phase of shifting gears I won’t lie to you and say I have no fear of showing my work. The perfectionist in me worries about my feed and how to lay everything out.

I meant what I said when I said being an artist became hacking social media. I worry more about the aesthetic of my work on a black hole of online interaction than what my art should feel like.

Every day I get to pull my camera out in reminded that I do this for the people who need the memories to stay alive, outlive them even. The memories you can hear, even when they’re faded and the edges are starting to wear down over the years.

I capture these moments for the loved ones who came before you and who will come after you. I realize everyday I don’t have enough photos of the ones I love the most, and each day I let that slide I regret it more and more.

Because these are all we have left after they pass on.

I have the coolest friends.

One of my most favorite people in the world had her opening night PREMIERE of her piece titled “Our Knees Hurt” and I couldn’t be more proud of how incredible of a performance it is.
Not only that but she’s partnered with another fantastic choreographer who used crochet in her piece and it is SPECTACULAR.

Having dance as a hobby and merging it with my photography has been inspiring. I’ve met incredible artists, beautiful humans, and I feel so honored to capture what Christina creates.

If you’re in the Cleveland area and want some weekend plans, closing night is tomorrow at , I bet they’re selling out too.
I’ll be there tomorrow so if you see me come say hi! But enjoy the amazing show and definitely take it all in, you won’t want to miss it!

A million touches happen each wedding.
I’m transported back to being six in my backyard at dusk trying to catch them like fireflies.
They blink and then they’re gone, but chasing them doesn’t work only pushes them farther away.
I have to be still, take it all in.

When will they appear?
Do I have my jar ready?

Being extra careful to not squish them and make them feel claustrophobic can be so tricky, and yet I’ve mastered the fly on the wall method of just being present and catching them when they fly by.

You don’t think about capturing small details like clasped hands, or the way the light pours in through the windows; but I do.
We think in flowers, and table settings, decor, and dresses.
I see it all, the bigger picture. The accumulation of love and affection, the things you paid attention to and want everyone to see, and the things you won’t even know you would’ve missed until it’s in your gallery.
I see life in frames, each second posing a new frame to capture, and each frame holding more and more detail to freeze.

So while I’m capturing touches like fireflies, you can breathe easy knowing the smallest pieces are documented.

You guys asked for something personal to me and I’m finally giving you what you want.

During my film journey I think I’ve taken dozens of rolls, countless ones I despised, others I tolerated. I’m constantly experimenting, trying different techniques and settings to see what look I want to achieve.

When I got these rolls in today, I was filled with joy. Just a few moments from an amazing time just weeks ago, and as much as the perfectionist in me what’s to criticize that I used the wrong settings, or I didn’t properly expose this, or the focus is off in that; I just can’t.

Because these moments mean more to me than having the perfect photo. These moments are just pure minutes of memories I wanted to document, and I can’t be mad at myself for wanting to capture it as quickly as possible and tossing perfection to the wind.

Me making mistakes on one roll of film doesn’t reflect who I am as a photographer, much less as a person. Me documenting moments important to myself says so much more.

As I explore the world of film I’m reminded how much I love my Sonys, but more so in reminded in why I started taking photos in the first place. Because I just saw beauty in everything, and one day composition didn’t matter. Setting up didn’t matter.
And one day, one day I’ll produce roll after roll of gorgeous film photos, and there’s always going to be mishaps.

But today, today I find no flaws in off duty Shawnae capturing her weekend trip, only happiness knowing I did.

The magic is in the details ✨

We don’t talk enough about how it’s the accumulation of all the little things that make up your wedding. It’s the small details that show who you and your partner are, where you come from, and how you move through the world together.

I wanted to highlight some key points in the getting ready process. The importance of things you might forget when planning everything to a T.
I really value helping my clients remain present on their wedding day, letting them live through the moment and feel all the feelings, but it takes work to get to that space and I know now as a seasoned photographer that it’s all about the tiny pieces of the puzzle.

This is just a very small example of a very small piece of a very big day.
