🫦62 Days Away From Halloween: Rocky Horror : Part ONE 🫦

There are movies you watch…and then there are movies that permanently alter your personality.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was definitely one of those for me.

So, if I’m going to spend spooky season helping others play dress up, then I am going to join in! We are playing dress-up, taking ridiculous amounts of pictures, & becoming some of my favorite characters, I HAD to pay tribute to Dr. Frank-N-Furter. šŸ«¦šŸŒˆšŸ–¤šŸ‘ šŸ§Ŗ

Tim Curry as the Doctor was probably my first introduction to seeing a man unapologetically wearing heels, pearls, makeup and a corset & somehow absolutely OWNING every damn inch of it!

And listen…I could never wear a corset as well as HE did, but that certainly wasn’t going to stop me from trying.

There is just something about Halloween that gives grown adults permission to play again. To dress up. Become somebody completely different. Revisit the movies & characters we grew up loving & just have FUN with it.

So this one is for Tim Curry News or Dr Frank…..the pearls, fishnets, attitude and all.

And if you know what’s coming next…

I can hardly stand the antici……pation. šŸ˜

Living with a narcissist can slowly strip away so many pieces of who you are…including your confidence, your sense of worth, and sometimes even your ability to recognize yourself.

But the aftermath doesn’t have to be the end of your story.

If you’re healing from a narcissistic relationship, please remember: you are enough. You are worthy of love, respect, peace, and a life that feels like your own again.

Healing doesn’t happen overnight. But little by little, the fog begins to lift. You start trusting yourself again. You start recognizing the person in the mirror. And eventually, you realize that losing what was hurting you created space for something entirely different.

So instead of asking yourself, ā€œWhat if this change ruins everything?ā€

Ask yourself:

What if this change is the beginning of the best part of your life?

Because maybe this new chapter isn’t about becoming who you used to be.

Maybe it’s about becoming someone you never knew you could be.

And for the record—no, I’m not skinny. I don’t WANT to be skinny. I’m learning to appreciate the woman I am, not punish myself for the woman I’m not.

So I must say that I make a cute little Tim Burton character?! šŸ–¤

I’m equal parts adorable, spooky, slightly strange, and just a little bit twisted… which honestly feels pretty accurate.

It’s officially that weird time of year where it’s still hot as HELL outside, but you can feel the days slowly becoming a little less disrespectful. šŸ”„šŸ„µ

Pumpkin flavors are starting to hit the shelves, fall decorations are creeping into the stores, and that can only mean one thing…

FALL IS COMING. šŸŽƒ

And anyone who knows me knows that the minute I sense even the slightest possibility of fall, I begin my countdown to my absolute FAVORITE time of year….HALLOWEEN!

So, naturally, I thought turning myself into a cute little Tim Burton character was the perfect way to officially kick off my Halloween countdown.

Now I just need Mother Nature to get the memo and turn the damn temperature down. šŸ˜‚šŸŽƒ

There is something about a silhouette that tells a story without revealing every detail. šŸ–¤

Lately, I’ve found myself falling in love with this style of photography all over again. I actually played with light and silhouettes when I was younger, and coming back to it now feels a little like rediscovering an old part of myself.

But I think I understand the beauty of it differently now.

For those of us who may feel a little intimidated by our bodies (or by standing completely exposed in front of a camera) a silhouette can feel incredibly freeing.

The shadows soften the details we tend to pick apart, while the light reminds us that our shape, our presence, and our story are still beautiful.

And this woman has one hell of a story. She is a breast cancer survivor. šŸŽ€

She came into this Survivor Series session incredibly nervous!!!

She wanted something personal … something that represented everything she has overcome and, more importantly, the strength she discovered in herself when life gave her absolutely no choice but to find it.

Sitting beside that river, surrounded by nothing but water, earth, light, and shadow, I saw exactly what I wanted this series to capture.

Not what happened to her….

Who she became because she survived it!!

Strong.
Powerful.
Feminine.
Beautiful.

And still here. ā¤ļø

I also owe this beautiful woman a very special thank you for her patience with me. She trusted me with her story, her vulnerability, & apparently my unexpected game of location-hopping. šŸ˜‚ We had to pack up and leave not once, but TWICE.

She never complained. She just rolled with it, trusted me, and kept going.

And somehow, I think that makes me love this photograph even more.

Because sometimes life changes the location.
Sometimes the plan gets completely screwed up.
Sometimes you have to gather your s**t, move somewhere else, and start again.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t still create something beautiful.

So THANK YOU! For trusting me enough to step in front of my camera. Thank you for your patience, your vulnerability, and your willingness to let me tell just a tiny piece of your story.

You are an incredible woman.

You are stronger than you realize.

You are capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for.

And I hope when you look at this photograph, you don’t just see a silhouette sitting beside a river.

I hope you see her.

The woman who fought…
The woman who survived….

The woman who is still becoming.

And the woman who finally gets to see just how damn powerful she’s been all along. šŸ–¤

This is the Survivor Series.
Not photographs of what tried to break us.

Photographs of the women who are still standing.

POV: ā€œYou’re such a strong woman.ā€

Awww, thank you. šŸ–¤

Unfortunately, this strength did not come from yoga, green juice, positive affirmations, or finding inner peace.

This s**t was FORGED IN NATURAL DISASTERS. šŸ˜‚

Every time life knocked me down, I got back up.
Then apparently life said, ā€œOh, she can handle more.ā€
And sent a tornado.
Then an earthquake.
Then a hurricane.
Then, for a little razzle-dazzle, set some s**t on fire.

And somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, I became her.

Not because I wanted to be strong.
Not because I never broke.
But because every single time I broke, I figured out how to put myself back together.

So yes, I am a strong woman.

But just once, I’d like the universe to stop treating that like a fu***ng challenge. šŸ˜‚šŸ–¤

I’ve survived enough character development.

I would now like to enter my soft-life era. ✨

This isn’t just a poem about Costa Rica.

It’s about surviving a mental breakdown, learning to see the world differently, and finding the courage to rebuild a life that finally feels like your own!

Sometimes falling apart is exactly what makes room for becoming.

I am beginning to believe that healing doesn’t happen in grand gestures. Sometimes it happens on a random night out with an unexpected friend.

This weekend reminded me of something I had forgotten.

People listened when I spoke!
They looked at me instead of their phones!

They laughed with me, asked me questions, and genuinely seemed interested in what I had to say!

Maybe I was just the ā€œnew personā€ in the room, the shiny new toy everyone hadn’t met before: but honestly, after everything I’ve been through, I’ll take the reminder.

For so long, I convinced myself that maybe I was boring. Maybe I wasn’t fun anymore. Maybe I was too much, or not enough. After spending so many years in relationships where I felt unseen, unheard, and eventually left behind while they built a life that no longer included me, it’s easy to start believing those things about yourself.

But this reminded me that none of that is true.

I’m not boring. I’m not dull. I’m not lazy. I do know how to laugh. I do know how to have fun. I do have qualities that people are drawn to.

The difference is that I need to be around people who are kind and caring to me. People who make me feel safe enough to be myself. When you’re constantly protecting your heart, it’s hard to let your personality shine. But when you’re with people who genuinely care, it’s amazing how much of yourself comes back.

Thank you for standing beside me, for believing in me when I struggled to believe in myself, and for reminding me that there are still good people in this world.

I’m sorry I can’t always be more right now. Healing isn’t a straight line, and some days are still incredibly hard. But your patience, your encouragement, and your friendship have meant more than you probably realize.

Thank you for seeing me; for all that I am, all that I’ve survived, and all that I can still become, even on my worst days!!

Maybe this wasn’t just a night out.

Maybe it was the first time in a long time that I remembered who I am and I know how great she really is!!

Some nights are more than concerts. They’re healing.

I’ve loved Evanescence since the late ā€˜90s and early 2000s. Long before streaming, long before playlists, there was a voice that somehow found the words I couldn’t.

Amy Lee’s voice has always been hauntingly beautiful, but it was never just the music that kept me coming back. It was the lyrics. They met me in some of the darkest seasons of my life, gave words to emotions I didn’t know how to explain, and reminded me that there was beauty even in heartbreak.

Twenty-plus years later, here I am again… and somehow those songs are still finding me exactly when I need them most.

Standing in Atlanta, listening to songs that have carried me through so many chapters of my life, felt almost surreal.

This concert was different, though.

A few months ago, we lost our dear friend, Brandy. Evanescence was one of her favorite bands, and as the music filled the arena, there were moments when I caught myself smiling through tears because I could almost imagine her singing right along with us. Some songs hit a little harder knowing she wasn’t standing beside us, but somehow it also felt like she was.

The four of us who went have all experienced tremendous loss recently. We each carried our own grief into that arena. For a few hours, we cried, sang at the top of our lungs, laughed, hugged, and remembered the people we wish could still be here.

Music has an incredible way of doing that. It reminds us that grief is just love with nowhere to go. It gives us permission to feel everything at once: heartbreak, gratitude, nostalgia, hope and somehow leaves us a little lighter than when we arrived.

So thank you, Amy Lee, and the incredible band Evanescence, for creating music that has been the soundtrack to so many chapters of my life. Thank you for writing songs that have helped me survive more than once. And thank you for giving us a night where healing didn’t have to be quiet.

Some concerts entertain you.

Some concerts stay with you forever.

This one reminded me that even after unimaginable loss, music still has the power to make us feel alive.
