They asked me if I could recommend a location that felt like them. Bright and cheerful, full of color, winding paths that kids could explore. And they showed up in their favorite colors ready to see what the park had to offer. The kiddos ran through the roses, their feet wet with the morning dew, the flowers opening in the breeze, kissing our noses with the soft velvety scent only roses can bring. A morning that felt exactly like them.

They were married in the mountains, where the air smelled like pine trees and wildflowers. You could hear the stream bubbling over the wind wrestling the leaves. As the sun set, the guests made their way into the lodge where a beautiful meal was prepared by the crew who maintains the lodge. The lack of cell reception coupled with the isolation of the location created a connection among everyone, a rare kind of presence, where laughter lingered a little longer and every conversation felt unhurried. Candles flickered, glasses clinked, and for one quiet, perfect evening, the world felt smaller in the best way. Just love, soft light, and the kind of togetherness you don’t realize you’ve been missing until you’re inside it.

When we pulled up to the beach, I helped the littles get dressed, we made a quick bathroom stop, and walked down to the water. If you’ve ever had pelvic pain in pregnancy you know that even 10 feet feels like a mile, but she smiled through the pain. We played and didn’t over direct. The water was warm, but their joy was warmer. A quick maternity session for that last baby. And as we walked back to the car to get everyone dried off, we talked about how this baby is probably coming before their due date.

Not even 24 hours later my phone buzzed… baby Margaux was here 🥰

It’s hard to put into words what it means to edit remembrance portraits for babies who left this earth too soon. Each time I open a file, I pause. I breathe. I whisper their name. I retouch gently, because these aren’t just photos, they are glimpses of a soul that didn’t get nearly enough time. I carry each baby in my heart.

Her baby brother is turning one. And while the session was to honor this big milestone, it was also celebrating her. 1 full year of being a big sister, learning to share her mama, growing into herself. So proud of this family for nurturing Baby F so he can shine light, joy, and strength into their lives.
