Today I read the heartbreaking news that Kip McLeod passed away unexpectedly yesterday, and my heart has just been so heavy for this family.
Earlier this year, I had the privilege of photographing the wedding of his son, Rett, and his new daughter-in-law, Rebekah. In the short amount of time I spent with the McLeod family, I absolutely fell in love with all of them.
There are some families where you can simply feel the love they have for one another, and this was one of those families. The love Mr. and Mrs. McLeod shared was undeniable. It radiated through the entire day, and looking back through these photographs now, I feel like you can see it in every single one.
I remember standing there during Mr. McLeod’s speech and walking over to Rett’s sister, Kristin, and saying, “How in the world are you ever supposed to pick a husband who could match up even half as good as your dad?” That was the impression he left on me after knowing him for such a short time.
He was the kind of person who made you feel loved and welcomed almost immediately. I truly believe he couldn’t meet a stranger, and that anyone who had the privilege of meeting him probably walked away feeling a little more loved than they did before.
My heart absolutely breaks for Mrs. McLeod, Rett, Kristin, their entire family, and everyone who loved him. There really aren’t words for having to imagine the rest of your life without someone who was clearly such a huge part of it.
I’m incredibly grateful that, even in such a small way, I was given the opportunity to witness and document the love this family shares. These photographs feel a little more precious today.
Please say a prayer for the McLeod family as they navigate a loss that is simply unimaginable. 🤍
Rest peacefully, Mr. McLeod. It was truly an honor to know you, even if only for a short while.
