From the party we attended on Saturday. I probably shot two dozen long exposures of the campfire and I'm quite pleased with this one. Not freehand, but just stabilized against a chair.

For those keeping track, this is a 2 second exposure at ISO 100 shot at an F29 on my A6500. I used a 2 second delay timer to make sure I didn't get any vibration.

Yeah, I'm still alive. It's been hectic. I've had the camera out, but not as much as I would have liked. Even with that, it's the editing that gets pushed to the back. But these were easy. I thought about what editing they needed. I friend smacked me upside the head... er... convinced me to just leave them the hell alone... so here they are. Shots taken on our Steampunk Riverboat Cruise last weekend. I'll get around to tagging it in the morning.

This year for the 4th of July we did a harbor cruise in Annapolis.

You remember what the 4th was like? Hot… muggy… hoping that you didn’t get washed out…. Well, it was hot and muggy standing in line, and we didn’t get washed out. Once on board and we actually started moving, we had a lovely breeze. We cruised past the Naval Academy, up the Severn River about half way to the headwaters, then back to position ourselves about a half mile away from the fireworks launch barge. There was basically nothing between us and the barge, and in a couple of the shots, you can see it.

There are two ways to get decent shots of fireworks. Short exposure, which freezes them, or long, so you can get the trails. Short exposure you tend to lose the motion. Long exposure, they feel alive. If you’re lucky you can get launch through explosion through fade away. This requires that you be rock steady, and a tripod is a must. What’s also a must is that you NOT be on a boat, bobbing in the current. When you look at those shots, they tend to be rather… um…. Interesting. And usually not interesting in a good way.

Anyway… enjoy.

How does it get to be the end of the month again, and I haven’t posted anything? Especially when I’ve been to two very photogenic places? ::sigh::

Ok, these shots are from the Celtic Festival at the PA Ren Faire. It’s a weekend event held at the end of June every year. Usually it’s too bloody hot, but this year the weather cooperated! We went with some friends and had a blast! A day of bagpipes and haggis, kilts and corsets.

Of course, you really didn’t think that most of these shots would be of those, did you? If you did, you obviously haven’t been seeing enough of my work!

Why? Need you ask?

I think he knows I was watching. Not thrilled with the guy in the hat, but cropping him out ruined the composition.

We've all heard of shop cats? Yeah... this is a forge cat. Ok, there wasn't any forging going on, but he was completely oblivious to the ren faire chaos going on around him.

Last weekend we visited the Conowingo dam and Havre de Grace with some friends. Absolutely beautiful scenery. If you're into bird watching, I highly recommend Conowingo. We saw dozens of bald eagles, herons, egrets and more. I'm also now firmly convinced that I need a MUCH longer autofocus lens. 240mm just doesn't cut it. I've got longer lenses (a 500 prime and a 150-600 zoom, both adapted from Canon mount) that I can shoot in manual, which is fine... manual is my preference. But trying to stay focused on a bird in flight? Much trickier!

This is actuallyt he best eagle shot I got all day, and it wasn't at the dam. This is at the waterfront in Havre de Grace and was almost the last shot of the day. Walking back to the car we heard the eagle in the tree. Took us 5 minutes to find him, but it was worth it.
