Can anyone else relate?

One of the things I require from every family I photograph is a phone consultation.

Of course, we go over everything you could possibly want to know about Family Day and graduation week at Fort Jackson. We talk timelines, where to park, what to expect, and I do my best to calm those pre-event nerves.

But that's never my favorite part.

My favorite part is getting to know you.

I want to know who's coming. I want to know your family, your personalities, and the little things that make you you. Those conversations help me recognize your family the moment you arrive.

Before Family Day, I asked Cassie to send me a family photo.

I wanted to put names to faces before we ever met. I wanted to recognize the people who were coming to celebrate Tyler and understand the family behind the Soldier.

By the time they arrived, I wasn't greeting strangers. I was welcoming the Bird family.

As we spent the day together, I learned that Tyler wasn't the first to wear the uniform. His dad had served before him.

That made this day even more meaningful.

This wasn't just about Family Day. It was about a family legacy continuing into the next generation.

That's what I love most about this work. My job isn't just to document a milestone. It's to preserve the people, the relationships, and the legacy that brought everyone to that moment.

The hugs. The laughter. The proud smiles. The quiet moments in between. Those are the photographs that become part of a family's history.

Bird family, thank you for trusting me with such a special chapter of your story. It was an honor to spend Family Day with you and preserve these memories for generations to come.

Congratulations, Tyler. And to Dad, thank you for your service and for the example you set. Watching your family's legacy continue was something truly special. ❤️🇺🇸

"Pray for me, pray over me, and pray with me."

Those were Don's final words to Jasmine before he left for Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

During our consultation, Jasmine shared that from day one, prayer became the foundation that carried their family. Through every hard day, every missed embrace, every phone call, and every unknown, their faith never wavered. She believes that same faith will continue to carry them through AIT and throughout Don's military career.

Every family I photograph has a story. They each have a reason that keeps them moving forward—their "why." For Don and Jasmine, that foundation is their faith.

Standing on Hilton Field at Fort Jackson, I wasn't just witnessing another graduation. I was witnessing answered prayers, unwavering love, and a family finally reunited.

Don and Jasmine, thank you for allowing me to preserve this chapter of your story. It was an honor.

Congratulations, Don, and congratulations to every Soldier graduating today. Enjoy every moment of Family Day with the loved ones who prayed for you, prayed over you, and prayed with you every step of the way. Welcome to the next chapter. 🇺🇸❤️

Some of my favorite moments happend when the crowd is in the thick.

And then...

The crowds begin to thin and small little people rush to see their faviorate person.

And then...

Magic happends.

Derek finally had his arms around Haven and little B. There is no rush. No schedule. Just a family making up for time apart walking together, laughing, exploring, and soaking in the fact that they were finally in the same place again. Even for a short while.

Those little hands wrapped around Dad's uniform. The smiles. The hugs. This is the moment B was waiting for time with his daddy.

That's the story I love capturing.

Welcome home, Derek. It was an honor to capture these first memories together as a family.

You don't need eight hours of posed photos.
You need someone who knows when to step in—and when to disappear.
