Some of my industry colleagues may disagree with what I'm about to share, but here goes... An unfortunate truth I have seen over my years behind the camera- is that sometimes, in all the "to do" of a wedding day- the planned moments, tight timeline and shotlist can sadly come at the expense of true sentimental moments. Listen, I get it. Unposed and unplanned can feel "against" all that you've so painstakingly planned for. But it's these moments- the fleeting ones between the main events, where stories from generations past are shared amongst belly laughs and your "soft smile" is tossed to the wayside- that make the most cherished photos of all. Beyond your best-yet social media profile picture, I'm here to make heirlooms to outlive generations to come (and, of course, "the" shot for the 'Gram along the way too).

This couple, though? This couple set an exemplary standard in the way of sentimental moments. L&J's day was filled to the brim with authentic connection. They made intentional space in the timeline for family traditions, and prioritized plenty of 1:1 with their closest loved ones and with one another. Sharing here just a few of my personal unfiltered favorites!

'How To Enter Reception With A Bang', a masterclass by S&J. These two absolutely *nailed it* in the way of building both high energy and guest-centrism into their reception entrance. They started with handwritten notes at the place setting for every guest- warmly welcoming them with a truly genuine touch. When they made their appearance, they chose a high-vibe song that got everyone moving- and did a full route around each table for a communal "hype up", before both making a meaningful welcome toast. The resulting energy was genuinely infectious and carried all the way through the very end of the evening!

Just a few sweet selections from M&J's wedding weekend, set in the idyllic vineyards of Paso Robles, Californian 🍇 Now that I have your attention with the help of this lovely couple, I thought I'd answer a question I'm getting more & more frequently these days- "Should I opt for photography coverage during the rehearsal dinner/welcome party?"... The TLDR here is "probably so". My insight is this: Your wedding experience isn't limited to one day. In fact, your wedding experience often begins from the moment your first guest arrives to your destination, totally ecstatic to celebrate you- and that energy, that enthusiasm is certainly worth capturing. A good photographer aims to encapsulate your *entire* wedding story, not just a selective chapter. Beyond the great guest shots and memories held close-to-heart, I personally find the first event of the wedding weekend to be my best opportunity to connect with your guests, learn their names and get them comfortable in front of my lens before the big day. The first event of the weekend sets the tone for all of the events to follow, and the value of keeping that momentum high? Worth it, no doubt.

A morning at the Sully, an evening at the Audubon.

A&J celebrated from dawn to dusk- from her first look with the bridesmaids and his impromptu soccer match with the groomsmen, to their sentimental ceremony backdropped in a historic New Orleans cathedral, all the way through their tea room reception featuring a brass-instrument jazz band, second line and of course… a Gambino’s Chantilly cake for the books. These two took the art of making their day truly and authentically theirs quite seriously, and the infectious joy could be felt the whole day through. It was such an honor to capture!  Planner: ⁠
