Moms—it’s my delight to document you.

I hope it’s not weird to say, but I often feel like I know you better than you know me. We might spend an hour together in the field, but then I spend many more in my office choosing and editing your photos—truly seeing the quiet, honest ways light and colors show on your faces as you laugh or snuggle your children close.

You grow them, you hold them, you show them the world, and you teach them to love.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms I’ve had the joy of getting to know through my lens... and to those of you I hope to find in my frame in the seasons to come! 🤍

Summer just beckons for storytelling of the fun, relaxed days or grand adventures. Here are my ideas and location opportunities within Colorado. (I might have a few more mountain options once my family figures out our camping schedule so let me know if you are interested in that.)

And yes, it feels ironic to be talking about summer while it's currently snowing in COS... But it's relevant to the timing of opportunity #1 and in typical Colorado fashion it will be 80 next week.

I am quickly realizing there are so many reasons why wearing is so conducive to beautiful motherhood photos.

Here are the first two:

The eye peeks are just the best. Littles typically don’t stay still enough outside for close-ups to be this crisp—but when they are snuggly, they are often curious enough to just stare down the lens.

And then, they fall asleep. Usually, a nap or nap needing crankiness would be tough in an outdoor session, or at least stressful for mom, but when they’re worn, it’s just a transition to another beautiful moment worth documenting.

If you found me through the babywearing world—welcome. 👋

I’m Kiana. In my day-to-day, I’m mostly focused on exploring and learning alongside my own children. Photography is my creative exhale (after years of technical work) where I’m focused on documenting motherhood, beautifully.

I want to take real memories—everything from a slow morning at home to the grit of a mountain trail—and turn them into art. I’m leaning into "wearing" as a focus because that physical closeness is the perfect foundation for the emotive images I want to create. It works so well for moms both to give them a comfortable focus and to record something that was central to this stage of life.

I’m based in Colorado but I love traveling and documenting mamas in new landscapes. I’ll share more about travel session opportunities as they come up!

On a recent trip to California, I knew I wanted to capture motherhood in the dramatic beauty of wildflower season + coastside cliffs + the beach.
Not knowing any moms there, I reached out to a babywearing group—that snuggly connection is my favorite thing to document—and this mama and her family showed up to help create some stunning shots that were everything I dreamed of.
The wildflowers are definitely showing off in these! Stay tuned for more of the ocean and the beach bluffs soon.

Spring hits different when it's your first time.

What was your child's reaction to the texture of grass?

"Milestones" don't just come as cake smashes or posed moments, it can be even more memorable to capture these delightful little firsts - the ones that are small but so real. Anytime you want a baby/child focused session I'll focus on catching their real play and small wonderful moments.

For the past decade, I’ve been a data scientist—and it’s bittersweet to step away from a career I’ve truly loved, especially in these recent years working for an incredible Christian organization.

So why am I leaving?

Not to become a photographer.

I’m leaving to spend more time investing in my kids’ lives. To create margin. To have more peace and a little more mental space.

So where does photography fit in?

This is my creative exhale.

Photography has always been something I loved, and recently I’ve found so much joy coming back to it. It lets me use my technical brain in a more artistic way—and gives me a reason to get out of the house and connect with other moms.

There’s something deeply meaningful about helping another mom see the beauty in her own life… sometimes even bringing her to tears.

I’m still refining exactly what I love most, but right now I’m especially drawn to:
– Motherhood & newborn at home
– Babywearing (done plenty of that myself to enable work!)
– Family adventure

The kinds of moments that reflect my own life. The moms that feel like friends.

I’m also not trying to do this full-time or replace my former income.
The whole reason I stepped away from data science was to create more space.

So this will stay a limited offering—around 2–4 sessions a month. (And I definitely don't want to be spending a ton of time here on social media... Just enough to find my ideal families...👀)

What that means for the families I work with:
– Faster turnaround
– More intentional, personal experience
– Space for creativity (not just repeating the same thing over and over)

One last note, This account will mostly be my photography work—but I’ll also share a bit of my own mom life and our adventures around Colorado Springs. I have more local connections here than on my personal account, and I genuinely enjoy sharing places, ideas, and little moments from our days. Because that's what will truly be FILLING my days going forward.

Actually I love all of that.

April Fools' jokes aside, I know the pressure to have the "perfect" family photo is real. But when you look back in 20 years, do you want to see a posed version of a stranger, or do you want to see the way your children really snuggled you?
My photos are about documenting the beautiful of this season of life.
Their favorite lovie, even if it's ragged.
The mid-session nursing breaks.
The raw, unscripted, "wild" reality of your everyday.
