El Callejon wasn’t technically “open” yesterday but Alfredo saw us looking in the window and invited us in. Next thing ya know two beers and two shots of whiskey later he was singing karaoke for us in Spanish.

Alfredo’s English is better than my Spanish but still a bit rough. Luckily I know just enough Spanish and my decades of interacting with non native English speakers has proved valuable. Throw in some universal hand jestures and such we can communicate just fine.

Course those drinks and the edibles I got from Ben’s store they make in house likely helped as well.

El Callejon is one of our go to spots down here for 4:5 years now. We befriended Alfredo and the guys 3 years ago after another random time he invited us in when they weren’t quite open yet. Just one more reason we feel at home down here.

Lots going on in this little town I grew up in. Lots more to come. Matching challenge for the skatepark I created brought out some big names already from the past. Second phase will get funded. But that’s just the start for the skatepark.

Next up is a program I’m designing just for bartenders for the historical society. In conjunction with that is learning the history of every neighborhood bar in town. Most have been such for well over 100 years now. Also need to go thru the Dark Ages (prohibition) files as well or rather revisit. Already did a paper on that in college. 30 pages.

Mountain bike trails are looking good but still some work to be done to get WAMB back to what it was. Also need more trails at Cherry Hill.

Long term project I have is to figure out how to get a community radio station running in Winona. Got a bit of research to do but definitely a big goal.

Helps we don’t have much for religious or political extremists in town. Just doers and thinkers in my circles. Thinkers built this town over the last 150 years. This town values Knowledge and education. So much so there is a $100 million endowment for such to serve a town of 25,000. That’s legit.

Really love making the trip out. Hate to leave so soon. But gotta get back and down to New Mexico next.
