Fall Meteor
This is one of those photos I recommend clicking to open to full size. While out photographing the famous cabin near Silverton, CO, on an early morning in the San Juan Mountains, I was doing a time-lapse when Jason Fazio Photography said he saw a meteor go right over the peaks. At first, I thought the camera had missed it, but after looking again, I realized I had photographed it just as it went over the peak. This is a single photo, and this was not photoshopped in.

Starry Night over Smuggler-Union Hydroelectric Power Plant
I have been after this composition for a while, and this fall I was finally able to make it happen. I photographed the landscape during blue hour, and then proceeded to do a stack of the sky before stitching everything together.

My favorite scenes take place when the dramatic clash of seasons begins, as snow blankets the mountain tops while the golden aspens begin to lose their leaves. Taken near Silverton, CO

All aboard Locomotive No. 493
My first fall photo of 2026 captures Locomotive No. 493 as it travels from Durango to Silverton, CO. After a long hike, I captured one of the scenes I had in mind: this amazing train moving through the valley filled with fall colors.

A Pastel Predawn
Since I will not be able to make it up to Summit County this year, I decided to edit and post a photo I took last year near Silverthorne, CO, on a cold fall morning. Originally, I had no plans to post this photo, as there were no clouds and the aspens were motion-blurred, but I came to appreciate the scene after taking another look and remembering how peaceful that morning was.

Fall Rainbow
If fall colors in Colorado do not provide enough color, then the addition of a rainbow is the finale to an amazing sunrise I witnessed last year near Ridgway, Colorado.
