I have been printing small copies of family photos, the portrait art I’ve created of my babies, and even generational photos. I tucked them away in a drawer in hope that one day my kids would find them and feel joy and excitement reliving memories. Well today that happened. I’m tearing up thinking about how I planted the seeds for this very moment. When your photographer tells you to get the prints it’s not because we want to upsell you. You are hearing a lot about Ai these days. Which is why I believe now, more than ever in the importance of existing in true authentic portraiture. Kathee came in to the studio, and not once did I hear her mention any dislike for anything about her body. She so elegantly wore every winkle as a token of a life well lived. Years of long days outside enjoying the suns warmth, tears cried through pain, mountains climbed, and simply put, a life lived authentically and unapologetically. Sure you can run your image through an Ai program and it will give you a headshot. However, what Ai wont do is tell the story that you wear in ever wrinkle. The wrinkles that represents the real tangible person that your loved ones see and hug and get to love each day. They don't want an Ai image, because that's not actually YOU. So as we head into this Ai world full seam ahead, I challenge you to start embracing the person you see in the mirror with brave new eyes of acceptance. Because every "flaw" is what makes you uniquely and beautifully human. One thats worthy of existing in true portraiture.

This sweet boy absolutely stole my heart. 🤍

I photographed him in his mama Renee’s studio, and being around him was pure joy. He has that kind of energy that lights up the room—sweet, playful, and full of personality in the very best way.

The next day I used these images during a class I taught for Virginia Professional Photographers of America, and he was the perfect subject to work with. His expressions were full of life and story, and every frame felt like it had a little bit of magic in it.

And honestly… it’s no surprise. He carries his momma’s kind heart and joyful spirit so clearly. 💛
