If there’s one thing I’ve learned shooting weddings, it’s that organization is everything. A shot list isn’t just a piece of paper, it’s the roadmap for your entire day. When emotions, nerves, and excitement are running high, this list keeps everything on track so not a single moment gets missed.

A wedding day moves fast, one minute the bride’s getting her hair done, and the next everyone’s rushing down the aisle. Having a clear shot list helps me:
✅ Stay organized and know exactly what comes next.
✅ Capture the must-have moments that mean the most to my couple, from getting ready with the bridal party to that last sparkler exit.
✅ Keep everyone calm, on schedule, and focused (especially when there’s a big family group or tight timeline).

But it’s not just for me, it’s for you. A detailed photo list helps make sure your priorities are front and center. Maybe that’s a quiet moment with your mom, a fun shot with your bridesmaids, or a sentimental dance with your grandparent. When we plan that out ahead of time, you don’t have to worry about remembering in the moment, you can just be present and enjoy your day.

Bonus tip I’ve picked up from other pros online:
• A shot list acts like a “communication bridge” between the couple, planner, and photographer.
• It helps avoid duplicate shots or missed moments.
• And it keeps the creative flow balanced, you get both the posed classics and those candid emotions that make the day feel real.

At the end of the day, the best weddings are the ones that feel smooth, relaxed, and joy-filled. A shot list helps make that happen. It gives us the structure to stay focused, and the freedom to capture the unexpected moments that make your story yours.

Yo, what’s good? Ready to level up your photo game? Let’s break down some dope methods for snappin’ fire pics, includin’ that slick rim light and full light vibe. Whether you’re shootin’ weddings, portraits, or just messin’ around, these techniques got you covered. Let’s dive in, ya feel me? Rim Light - That Glow-Up Edge
Sup, wanna make your subject pop like they’re straight outta a movie? Rim light’s your jam. This is when you position a light source (like a flash or the sun) behind your subject to create a lit outline or halo effect around ‘em. It’s all about separatin’ your subject from the background, givin’ that 3D glow. How to do it: Stick a light (or use natural light) behind your subject, angled so it skims their edges. Think sunset portraits with that golden rim hittin’ their hair. Keep the front a bit darker for drama.
Pro tip: Use a reflector or soft fill light in front to avoid losin’ their face in shadow. Perfect for moody couple shots at a wedding. Yo, that rim light hits different!
Full Light - Bright and Bold
Aight, full light (aka flat or frontal lighting) is when you blast light straight at your subject, lightin’ up their whole face or scene. It’s clean, vibrant, and screams “look at me!” Great for group shots or when you want every detail poppin’. How to do it: Point your light source (like a softbox, ring light, or even that midday sun) directly at your subject. No harsh shadows, just pure clarity. Think bright bridal party pics where everyone’s lookin’ flawless.
Pro tip: Diffuse that light with a softbox or umbrella to avoid lookin’ too harsh. Keep it soft, keep it fresh, ya dig?
Backlight - Silhouette Swag
Yo, backlight is when the light’s behind your subject, but you’re not quite goin’ for rim light. This can create epic silhouettes or a dreamy, hazy vibe. Perfect for romantic sunset shots at a wedding. How to do it: Position your subject between the camera and a bright light source (like the sun). Expose for the background to make your subject dark and dramatic. Or, add a reflector in front for a softer look.
Pro tip: Play with exposure to balance the vibe—silhouette for artsy, or fill light for detail. Straight fire either way!
Side Light - Sculptin’ That Drama
Side light’s where it’s at for some serious mood. Light hits your subject from one side, creatin’ shadows that carve out their features. Think cinematic portraits, yall

How to do it: Place your light (or angle your subject toward the sun) at a 45-degree angle from the camera. One side’s lit, the other’s shadowed for depth.
Pro tip: Use a reflector on the shadow side to control how intense that contrast gets. Ideal for solo shots of the bride or groom lookin’ fierce.
Natural Light - Keepin’ It Real
Yo, sometimes you just vibe with what Mother Nature’s givin’. Natural light’s all about usin’ sunlight or ambient light without extra gear. Think golden hour for that warm, soft glow or overcast skies for even, flattering light. How to do it: Scout your location and time it right. Golden hour (sunrise/sunset) is chef’s kiss for warm tones. Shade or cloudy days? Perfect for soft, even lightin’.
Pro tip: Use reflectors to bounce light where you need it. No gear, no stress, just vibes.
Flash Vibes - Pop That Light
When the sun ain’t cooperatin’, flash is your homie. On-camera or off-camera flash can add punch to your shots, whether you’re bouncin’ light off a wall or usin’ a softbox for that pro look. How to do it: For weddings, bounce flash off ceilings for soft, even light. Off-camera flash? Set it up for directional light like rim or side light.
Pro tip: Gel your flash to match ambient light for seamless blends. Keeps it lookin’ natural, not like a paparazzi blast.
Wrap-Up
Aight, whether you’re rockin’ that rim light for a glowing outline or full light for crisp, clean shots, it’s all about matchin’ the vibe to the moment. Weddings are wild, so mix these techniques to keep things fresh—rim light for the couple’s golden hour glow, full light for the dance floor chaos. Grab your camera, experiment, and shoot like a boss. You got this, fam! dive deeper or got a specific scenario? Hit me up

✨🍂 Love in the Rockies 🍂✨

There’s something truly magical about fall in Colorado—the golden aspens, the cool mountain air, and the way love seems to shine even brighter surrounded by nature’s beauty.

I had the joy of capturing this sweet couple’s engagement session at Lake Brainard near Ward, CO, and the whole day felt like a scene from a storybook. Between the laughter, the quiet kisses, and even a little dancing among the aspens, their love radiated through every frame.

These two have such a natural, effortless connection—it’s the kind of love that makes you believe in soulmates. 💛

Congratulations again to this beautiful couple on their engagement! 💍✨
