I genuinely think this male red winged black bird recognizes me. I know where he and his mate nest, and where they hang out to collect more cattail fluff to carry home. I sit quietly on my paddle board and wait, and he comes over and perches to show me how very handsome he is.

"Uh...no, lady, I have no idea who made such a mess on your porch. Haven't seen anything!"

I've become very fond of him and my neighbors and passer byes seem to like watching him and comment. We're currently trying to think of a name beside Messy Demon or Porky Pig.

He has a squirrel house. It's now been moved off the porch and is nestled in a banana tree. Of course, he has another squirrel house coming tomorrow, and a picnic table that'll be on the porch so the cats can see him, but that is going to be all No Mess treats. He is awfully cute.

Today was the inaugural voyage of my new paddleboard. She's a foot longer, a little wider, and has a daggerboard in addition to a traditional single fin. I learned some things today: my dry bag floats, my s**g did not, nor was it found, and where the Mr and Mrs Red Winged Blackbirds nest. It was a bumpy start to a most excellent day!
