Wolf Lodge Creek is an interesting mix of wetland and forest. Loads of cattails and scrub brush surrounded by towering conifers. The creek meanders in several branches, some dead ending and others opening onto Wolf Lodge Bay. Lots more to explore and more birds to spot.

A song sparrow? I interrupted his toilette but he didn't seem to mind in the least. Being on the water while the birds are on land seems to give them a sense of security that lets me observe them behaving naturally.

Storytime: I was floating on my paddleboard in the wetlands surrounding Wolf Lodge Bay. It was dead calm and fairly quiet except for the odd splash and sound of songbirds calling to each other. Then, I heard the Osprey. Their shrieks are unmistakable. I knew it was too far away to get a clear shot. Instead, I leaned back and just watched it flying around over the bay. I was lying down with my head tilted as far back as it would stretch, and just before it disappeared into the forest and out of my line of sight, I snapped this image. I may as well have had my eyes shut when I took it but I love how it came out.

A red winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) spotted on a paddle board trip around Wolf Lodge Bay. I had no idea what he was, only that he was pretty. Not remotely afraid of me, either. They've got a lot of cover in the wetlands.
