π¨ NEW UPDATES β MONDAY MORNING (6/30/25) β CANFIELD MOUNTAIN AMBUSH π¨
Shooter confirmed deceased | No second suspect based on current evidence | Fire at 26 acres and not contained | Misinformation addressed
πΉ Officials have confirmed there was only one shooter. Although some witnesses initially reported seeing two individuals, evidence found on scene does not support that claim.
πΉ The suspect was found dead on Canfield Mountain near the ambush site. Investigators believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the attack. A firearm was recovered nearby, and law enforcement has located what they believe is the suspectβs vehicle.
πΉ Contrary to statements being pushed by some Washington-based news outlets, law enforcement has not released the suspectβs identity and has not confirmed any connection to Travis Decker. The photos we've seen of the possible suspect are clearly not Decker and no official source has made that connection. Spokane based news sites claimed it's been confirmed 4 people were killed, but that has not been confirmed anywhere officially.
πΉ The wildfire remains active and uncontained, currently measured at 26 acres. Despite incorrect reports by Spokane media, Fire Web does not list the fire as under control.
Air support was requested overnight, and operations are active today. Water scooping aircraft may be drawing from Hayden Lake, so boaters should expect restrictions and temporary closures.

π 1:30 PM β Sunday, June 29
Crews responded to a brush fire burning uphill near Nettleton Gulch and Shaw Rd. Trails were closed to the public.
π 1:50 PM β Gunfire Erupts
Multiple firefighters and at least one law enforcement officer were shot in a coordinated ambush. Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set to lure in first responders. It was relayed that an officer was shot, but no mention of that has been officially stated in press releases, just what was aired and Officer could mean tank of the Battalion Chief's.
π Emergency Response
Law enforcement from across the region responded. A shelter-in-place order was issued and later expanded to include:
β‘οΈ Everything south of Hayden Lake Road
β‘οΈ Everything east of 15th Street in Coeur dβAlene
π Suspect Located
Later that evening, SWAT teams found the suspect deceased near the scene. A firearm was found nearby. He is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the attack.
π Firefighting Efforts
The fire is active and uncontained. Air resources are operating, and water scooping flights are expected on Hayden Lake. Boaters are asked to stay clear.
π Graphic Audio Warning
Disturbing scanner audio from the ambush is circulating online. We do not believe airing it at this time is appropriate and ask others to consider removing it out of respect for the families and first responders.
