Just outside the small town of Beach City, OH, a small gorge runs between some farm fields. There are two waterfalls here. This is the smaller one, about 12-15' high. There are people who have lived in this area their whole lives who have no idea this exists.

Many of you have seen the iPhone photo of the barn at sunset that I recently posted on my personal page. That shot was just a bonus picture. The real reason I was photographing was to capture this scene. I've been eyeing this for 15 months. Finally everything came together for last night.

Taken with my Sony NEX-7.

Hey everyone... I forgot I had this page. I'll try to resurrect it from the dead.

I did some exploring around Cleveland recently, and ended up at Whiskey Island/Wendy Park. I was looking for views of the city skyline, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the Cleveland Coast Guard Station. It was built in 1940 and was used until 1976. It is currently empty.
I love the way the station is lit; the light is coming from a cargo ship off to my right. Even though there is color in the sky in this photo, it was pretty dark. I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder of my camera. I'm surprised that this turned out in focus.

You certainly don't need to go to a zoo to photograph flowers, but I happened upon these at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today. They kind of remind me of fireworks.

Wow... I can't believe it's been over 5 months since I have had an photograph that I felt was worth sharing on this page. This summer was a blur; moving to a new state, a new home, starting a new job, celebrating my son's 1st birthday and just generally getting settled. It all left very little time for photography.

Luckily, my family and I were able to escape for a few days with friends to the New River Gorge in the heart of West Virginia. One of the days we were there was extremely rainy, so we spent a good portion of the day driving around to various nearby state parks and other areas of interest. By far, my favorite was Babcock State Park.

This photo is the Grist Mill from Babcock State Park. While it is my favorite image from the weekend, I can't help but think about how amazing this scene must be in the peak of autumn, and perhaps with a bit more water flowing over the falls.

Thanks for looking!

Managed to sneak out to the coast again this morning with Marc and Mod from the Casual Photography podcast. Sadly, this was my last time to be on the coast of New Hampshire for the forseeable future. In just a few days I will be moving to sunny Ohio.
Like the photo I posted yesterday, this is also a 5-exposure HDR. This was shot in Manual mode, at f11, ISO 100, shutter speeds 15 sec, 8 sec, 4 sec, 2 sec, and 1 sec. I used my Sony NEX-7 and Sony 16mm lens. The HDR was processed in Photomatix Pro 5, which was nearly essential because of the extreme amount of deghosting involved in this image. A few other edits were made in Topaz Clarity and Aperture 3.
